iMessage "waiting for activation" 0 Recommended Answers 67 Replies 53 Upvotes

Context: I ported my number over from Verizon yesterday along with my iPhone XR, and my iMessage/SMS service is basically operating a bit nutty. Examples:

- Most text messages are going to Hangouts and not my phone
- iMessage is not working
- My ported phone number is not considered as activated for iMessage
- Under Settings > Messages (as well as Settings > FaceTime), a "waiting for activation" notification is up. When I try to turn off iMessage and turn it back on again, I get the "An Error occurred during activation. Try Again." notification.

I did update all my carrier settings to match the Fi insert card, FYI.

Any thoughts?

Hi matt schaar, welcome to the Google Fi User Forum!
 
It sounds like you may have some old Google Voice settings that need to be changed. 
  1. Go to https://hangouts.google.com/ and un-check:  ... / Settings / Receive SMS and voicemail in Hangouts.
  2. Review your Google Voice setting;
    1. Go to the Fi admin panel (https://fi.google.com)
    2. Click the "Google Voice" link at the bottom left of the page.
    3. Click on the Settings "COG" in the upper right corner of the screen
    4. Choose Settings.

I’m having the same issue. Does anyone have a solution for this? Seems like both iMessages and FaceTime are having the same issue.

I am also having this issue. Although my iMessages are still sending from my email address. All other text messages will not be sent out or received. Although the number transferred for calls, Under iMessage it says it is waiting for activation. I have made sure all settings are updated.

I’m having the same issue with iMessage not activating on my google fi number. How can we resolve this or speak with regarding this issue?

I’ve got the same problem with my wife’s phone on Fi.  Works well on mine but not working on hers.  Data point: I’ve got a text reg resp message that doesn’t seem to be processing by the phone for iMessage.

I got an iPhone 11 yesterday and swapped my Google Fi SIM out of my iPhone 7 to the new phone. I'm having the same issues you all are describing here. Called Google support and they told me iPhone 11 was not supported yet. Welp.

Hi all,
I had the same problem, though only apparently with iMessages with effects (balloons, etc.).
 Remember to check the phone number is “check marked” in iMessages as being able to send with it in iOS settings. Apparently iOS unchecked it when I ported my number. 
I also deleted hangouts just in case.
