Leave a group plan or remove members

Your Google Fi group owner and managers can remove members from your group. Each member can leave a group at any time.

When you decide to leave or someone removes you from your group, you can:

  • Join other groups.
  • Create your own Google Fi account.
    • You must be over 18 years old to create an account.
  • Port out your number to Google Voice or another carrier.

Group owners and managers are not able to manage phone numbers for other members. Each member must get their own port-out information.

If someone removes you from a group, your service is cut off. You have 60 days to port out your number, or we automatically release it. Your group owner is responsible for any pending charges from before you leave or they remove you.

Leave a plan as a group member

Any manager or member can leave a group plan without permission from the group owner.
  1. On your device, open the Google Fi app Fi or sign in to fi.google.com.
  2. Select Manage plan and then Leave Google Fi.
    • If Leave Google Fi is unavailable, select Contact us for more help.
    • A child’s account cannot leave the group on their own. The owner must remove these accounts.

When a group member leaves a plan:

  • If you’re a group member, you can transfer your phone number to another Google Fi plan, Google Voice, or another provider.
  • If they have a financed device, the leftover balance is charged to the group bill and the owner pays the balance.
  • If the group member's device is enrolled in Google Fi device protection, its enrollment is discontinued.

Leave a plan as a group owner

Important: Group members can’t stay in a group once the owner cancels service. If members want to stay in a Google Fi group plan, one of them must start their own group and invite the others.

  1. On your device, open the Google Fi app Fi or sign in to fi.google.com.
  2. Select Manage plan and then Leave Google Fi
    • If Leave Google Fi is unavailable, select Contact us for more help.
    • When the group owner leaves the plan:
      • The owner cancels their service, data, calls, and texts.
      • The owner can transfer their number to another Google Fi plan, Google Voice, or another provider.
      • If the owner's device is enrolled in Google Fi device protection, its enrollment is discontinued.
      • If another group member's device is enrolled in Google Fi device protection, its enrollment is discontinued when the member who uses the enrolled device leaves the group plan.
      • The owner continues to pay for financed devices that belong to other group members. When a member that finances their device leaves the plan, the group bill is charged for the rest of their balance. The owner pays this balance.

The owner also chooses when to end service for the other group members:

Option 1: Keep their service active until they leave

  • Group members will continue to have service and data for up to 60 days or until they leave the group plan. The group bill is charged for service and data and the owner still pays the bill.
  • When leaving, group members can transfer their phone numbers to another Google Fi plan, Google Voice, or another provider.
  • If no action is taken after 60 days, the phone number is automatically released.

Option 2: Cancel their service immediately

  • Calls, texts, and data are cut off immediately.
  • Group members can still transfer their phone numbers to another Google Fi plan, Google Voice, or another provider.

Remove a member from a group

To remove a group member:

  1. Open the Google Fi app Fi or sign in to fi.google.com.
  2. Under "Manage plan," select the group member to remove.
  3. Select Remove.

Each user you remove gets an app notification and email with their Google Fi account transfer info.

The member you remove has 60 days to transfer their number to:

  • Another Google Fi plan
  • Google Voice
  • Another provider

If the group member doesn’t transfer their number after 60 days, we automatically release their phone number.
