Device protection from Project Fi, and Device protection and Preferred Care from Google Store are different programs from Google that give your phone extra protection. With these programs, you can get a replacement device in the event of accidental damage (including drops, cracks, and spills), or mechanical breakdown beyond the manufacturer’s warranty period.
Which one is best for me?
If you're a Project Fi customer and want month-to-month flexibility in managing your coverage, then getting your phone and device protection from Project Fi might be a better fit. For example, month-to-month flexibility might be important if you plan to upgrade your device in less than 2 years.
If you know you'll want coverage for more than 2 years, or plan on using a wireless carrier other than Project Fi, you might want to purchase your phone and protection plan from Google Store.
