Use your own phone with Google Fi

Most popular phones are compatible with Fi. To use Fi with your phone, first follow the best practices below.

  • If you’re new to Fi, sign up at fi.google.com/signup.
  • You can order a free SIM card during the sign up process, or purchase one at an authorized retailer.
  • If you purchased a SIM card at a retail location, during sign up, you can select Bring your own phone. After you confirm that your phone is compatible with Fi, under the "We’ll send a free SIM" section, select Don’t need a new SIM.
  • To get started, download the Google Fi app on your new phone at fi.google.com/app.

Supported phone models

Only unlocked devices can be used with Google Fi. If you purchased your phone through Google Fi or the Google Store, your device is unlocked.

If you aren’t sure if your phone is unlocked, you can contact your current carrier or the place where you purchased your phone. Make sure you don't owe any payments on your device. Your carrier might also have other requirements to unlock your device.

  • At a minimum, all Android models must run Android 7.0 and have LTE bands 2 and 4.
  • All iPhone and iPad models must run iOS 12 or higher.
  • CDMA-only phones can work on Fi's LTE network. If there’s no LTE available, these devices aren't able to fall back to GSM (2G, 3G).

5G models

5G is the next generation of mobile network technology that provides a faster, more stable connection with less lag. For example, with a 5G-compatible phone, you can download a high-res, full-length movie on your phone in minutes* or stream 4K videos with fewer interruptions.

Fi’s 5G network runs on T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G network. To get more details on 5G coverage where you live, enter your address or zip code in the Fi coverage map.

*5G service not available in all areas. 5G service, speed, and performance depend on many factors including, but not limited to, carrier network capabilities, device configuration and capabilities, network traffic, location, signal strength and signal obstruction. Actual results may vary. For info on Fi speeds, see our Broadband Disclosure.
