Use your phone outside the U.S.

Important: Google Fi must be activated within the US. After activation, Fi service can be used outside of the US.

Once you sign up for Google Fi, you can use your phone for calls, text, and data outside the US. No need to change your phone's settings.

Keep in mind that only Designed for Fi phone models are capable of WiFi calling, with a few exceptions. For more information on features supported by phones Compatible with Fi, see Use your own phone with Google Fi.

Use Fi internationally

International use is supported in over 200 supported countries and destinations. Cellular calls are $0.20 per minute, and texts are included. You can also make calls over Wi-Fi. The rates for calling over Wi-Fi internationally depend on the country you’re calling. For specific rates, see Google Voice calling rates.

Unlimited plans

International data is included at no additional cost.

Flexible plans

Data is $10/GB — the same rate as in the U.S.

When both WiFi and cellular are available, Fi will route your call over whichever one gives you the best experience.

To use WiFi only, turn on Airplane mode and WiFi. Your phone won't connect to cellular on Airplane mode. Make sure to Airplane mode back off when you're not on WiFi anymore.

Keep in mind that outside of the listed covered countries and destinations, you can make or receive calls over Wi-Fi when the connection is strong enough. 

If you're not using a device Designed for Fi, Wi-Fi calling may not be available. Learn to use your own phone with Google Fi.

Other countries

You won’t be able to use your phone for cellular calls, text, or data, outside of this group of countries and destinations. However, in almost all countries you visit, you'll be able to call and text over Wi-Fi.

How to call & text

Call or text a number in the country you’re visiting

Dial (area code) (local number).

Call or text another country
  1. Touch and hold 0 until you see on the display
  2. Dial (country code) (area code) (local number).

For example, if you’re dialing a number in the U.K. from Japan, dial + 44 (area code) (local number).

If this number format doesn’t work, you can also try using the exit code  of the country you are visiting. Use (exit code) (destination country code) (area code) (local number).

Call or text a number in the U.S.
  1. Touch and hold 0 until you see on the display
  2. Dial (country code) (area code) (local number)

For example, if you’re dialing back to the U.S. from another country, dial + (1) (404) (9789316). 

How you’re billed

You can find the charges for your calls and data usage outside of the U.S. in the “Additional Charges & Credits” section of your latest billing statement. You can also find charges for usage outside the U.S. during your current billing cycle. Keep in mind, though, that these charges can take up to 60 days to appear on your bill. 

In the Flexible plan statement, the data you use outside of the U.S. is shown  separately from your monthly data budget, which covers data use only within the U.S.
