You can pause your service for a short period of time. This includes services, like:
- Call
- Text
- Data
Important: Settings and features may vary by device.
- Open the Google Fi app

- If you’re the group plan owner or manager, tap the member whose service you want to pause.
- If you’re not the group plan owner or manager, you can skip this step.
- If you’re not the group plan owner or manager, you can skip this step.
- Scroll to “Actions.”
- Tap Pause service.
- Review the effects of a service pause.
- When service is paused:
- Number retention: You keep your number.
- Service access: You can’t have access to domestic talk, text, data, or international services.
- Hotspot use: You can’t use your data for mobile hotspots or tethering.
- Data-only SIMs: Your data-only SIMs are paused.
- Charges: You're still charged for Device Protection and financing.
- When service is paused:
- Tap Pause service.
- You receive a notification that service is paused. To resume service at any time, tap Resume service.
Tips:
- Service automatically turns back on after 3 months.
- If you’re a member and not the owner, when your cellular data service is paused or resumed, you get an email and a notification.
- If you're in the military, you can pause your service for up to 39 months.
- To start a military pause, you need to contact a Google Fi expert. You need to prepare the details of your deployment.
