Important: This is available on select watches with Wear OS 3 or later.
With the Family Link app, you can:
- Manage your child's supervision settings.
- Monitor device usage and app activity.
- Block apps.
- Reset remotely.
Set up a tethered Wear OS watch
- Turn on your child’s watch.
- On your child’s phone, open the watch companion app, like Samsung Wear or Pixel Wear app.
- Tap Set it up.
- On your child’s watch, to select language and accept the terms of service, follow the on-screen instructions.
- On your child’s phone, follow the on-screen instructions until you find the name of your child’s watch.
- Tap the name of your child’s watch.
- On your child’s phone and watch, you'll find a code.
- If the codes are the same: On your phone, tap Pair. This can take a few minutes.
- If the codes are different: Restart your watch and try again. If the codes don't match, try these troubleshooting steps.
- To complete the setup, follow the on-screen instructions.
Tip: When your device and watch successfully connect, you'll find "Connected" in the Wear OS app. When they're not, on your watch's screen, you'll find “Disconnected .”
Manage tethered Wear OS device features
Screen time:
- Monitor device screen time: You can monitor your child’s usage time on their tethered Wear OS device.
- Monitor app activity: You can find which apps your child uses and how long they’re used on their Wear OS watch. This tracks their app engagement.
- Allow or block an app: You can block access to apps installed on your child's watch. You can allow access again at any time.
- When blocked, your child can’t open or receive notifications from the app and it won’t appear in their launcher. Learn how to manage your child's Google Play apps.
Content restrictions:
- Google Play: You can require your child to get your permission to purchase or download content and limit what they can find on Google Play. Learn more about purchase approvals on Google Play.
Device management:
- Ring device or play a sound: If your child's watch is misplaced nearby, to play a sound, you can use Family Link.
- Remote device reset: You can select to reset a device and remove your child’s data and associated account from a supported device that your child is signed into. Learn how to restore, remove, or delete your child’s Google Account.
- App permission management: You can manage the device permissions your child can grant to apps like location, camera, or microphone. You can also find and remotely revoke or grant a permission remotely to any given installed app. Learn how to manage your child's app permissions.
- Block developer options: You can choose to block if your child can turn developer options on or off.
- Allow clock edit: You can allow your child to edit the date and time.
