I'm having issues with expeditions running well.  The explorer devices sporadically connect and disconnect from the guide, but lost of times they can't find the guide at all, or only some of the explorer's can find the guide and others can't.  This is in a school environment over the school's WiFi.  I do not think the WiFi is the issue...I have the same problems when I move the devices over to a hotspot instead.  It seems like the expeditions app has simply become unstable.  We did not used to have these problems.  Is anyone else seeing these issues? I really wish there was a support number to call...

Hi there, could you please let me know which device you are trying to use it on? Can you check to make sure your device and the app are updated.

These are Motorola G4 phones.  Both the phones and the apps are completely updated

I don't think it's an over loaded access point issue, I have an access point in every classroom, and I'm replicating the same issue after hours while there is very little usage.

While testing with a hot spot, I'm getting the same behavior with only a guide and one explorer connected to the hotspot.  It's exactly the same behavior i'm getting through the schools WiFi.  I can only deduce from this information that it's not a network issue, it has to either be a device or an app issue. Being that the devices I'm using exceed the device requirement, I am further deducing that it must be an app issue.

I recently tried guiding an Expeditions tour of the Palace at Versailles using 1 Guide iPad and 30 Explorer devices (15 iPads and 15 iPhone 6s) running simultaneously using my school district's peer-to-peer Wifi network. My goal was to run the activity in pairs where students take turns seeing in VR and take breaks from the virtual world with the iPad. The Expedition was very UNstable in the configuration with the Guide iPad showing students adding and dropping and students getting kicked out of the Expedition. The local router has plenty of bandwidth to handle a full class set of Chromebooks. This led me to conclude that the problem is the Expeditions app and there is an upper limit of the number of Explorers that can link to a Guide - their devices are pulling the data off the Guide afterall. I am using a 6th generation iPad with all devices running the current iOS 12.4.1.

Is there a limit to the number of Explorers that can participate in a Guided tour and is this stated anywhere? Google needs to realize class size is often 30+ students and teachers don't have the luxury to run this type of activity with only half a class.

Are there any other fixes?
