Hi Kelly,

Since there isn't a direct way to take attendance in Google Classroom yet (thought it's not a bad suggestion to send feedback about, with the "?" in the lower left corner), you'd want some repeating assignment, as you described. However, I think what I'd suggest is using the Question option on the Classwork tab. Make the question something like, "are you here today?" with a yes/no answer. As the teacher, you'll be able to see who has completed and who hasn't, which tells you who was absent. But perhaps what you have already set up is something like this.

To answer your specific question about getting it to repeat, there isn't a way to get it to repeat on it's own. However, you wouldn't have to recreate the assignment each day, you can just use the "Repost" option under the Create menu. This let's you select an assignment from any class and reuse it as many times as you want. You could reuse it 5 times at the beginning of the week, and schedule them to show up each day. See attached links for more details on those things.

Hope that helps!

Alternatively, couldn't we just get a "last logged on at _______" or "last logged on _____ sec/min/hrs/days ago"? That would really help. Kognity, the digital textbook, does something like this.

Hi Bill,

Welcome to the forums!

If this is a feature you'd like to see added to Google Classroom, you can click the "?" in the lower left corner of Google Classroom and send feedback directly to the developers. All feedback is read and prioritized according to volume received, so your voice will be heard!

This has been a constant refrain for over a year; please fix it. Thanks.

This is the best thing I've found. Takes a few minutes but it works great.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50ENFu75EvY

I created a Google Form for attendance with the list of their names.  They go in and check their names off.  Easy!  It would be nice to have an attendance feature though.

I am using the Daily Response created as a way of a check-in. Some students have their responses indicated in the classwork and some do not, yet when I go to my drive there are multiple responses. How can I make sure that the students are getting credit for the response check-in?

I was able to create and publish an add-on that generates a daily form that you can share as an announcement in google classroom.

It is a sheets addon, that will build a tracker for you that you can monitor in a google sheet.
