We are doing virtual learning at home and our kids are constantly accessing Fortnite videos during their classes. I blocked YouTube.com at the router, but then Google Classroom is blocked. How bizarre is your infrastructure that G-classroom checks access to YouTube before loading? This feels intentional. YouTube generates ad revenue, students go to YouTube during class, require schools to leave access to YouTube untouched so Google can get ad revenue during class. And somewhere in California someone with an MBA got a promotion for this decision...you disgust me whomever you are.

I strongly want to agree with this.  My kids cannot use google classroom or google drive if YouTube is not enabled, but having YouTube enabled means that they waste tons of time on YouTube content.  Especially during this outbreak, when parents are trying to help And keep kids focused, this is an outrage.  We have a strong router privacy System—Gryphon—and even their Helpdesk couldn’t help me through this.

Can I  STRONGLY suggest that the folks at Google get their heads out of their collective you-know-wheres and fix their infrastructure to allow more granular blocking without impacting access to Google Classroom? I need to block access to YouTube during the "school day" so my kids don't end up watching mindless videos instead of doing their work. However, as others have stated, as soon as I block YouTube on my router, they are no longer able to get to their Google Classrooms either.

I found a "fix" for this for our homeschool. Install Blocksite (free Chrome Extension) and add Youtube.com in the blocked site list. Add a password to Blocksite so the kids cannot unblock YT. You need to type in your password to remove YT from the list of Blocked sites when they earn the privilege of screen time. Of course you have to remember to add it again to the Blocked list when their screen time is done. It is cumbersome but it works.

Google classroom is a complete and utter failure. Kids need to be in a classroom environment Learning together In participating in common assignments. It is unfair for the kids To perform academically Isolated From the classroom environment And Subjected To all the mine numbing Distractions Heard by facebook YouTube and what not. Leave it to private industry To come up with such a train wreck and education Tools.
