If this is happening on a Mac, you need to change a privacy setting so the classroom file can be linked with its source:

  1. From the Safari menu, choose Preferences....
  2. Click the Privacy button.
  3. Uncheck the box to allow cross-site tracking.

Hello all,

Thank you for raising this to our attention!   I've flagged this issue to the engineering team -- if you can help provide us with a bit of additional information it would be very helpful as we investigate.

  • Possible to send a screenshot of what you're  seeing?  For instance, when saying "it is not loading picture in browser when clicked on:"
    • what are you clicking on?
    • is there an error message?
    • what happens when it's clicked on? does any screen show up at all?
  • A user kindly posted a workaround for Mac (thank you!).  Checking if any users have found this to resolve the issue?
Thank you all for both highlighting the issue and helping us identify a solution!

why should we have to uncheck and allow  "cross-site tracking".  this seems to be an unreasonable google issue. when can it be fixed.

another user said to use chrome...with tracking on.

We are having the same problem using Safari and this is what shows on our screen when trying to open a jpeg file. And Ryan Bardo's fix didn't work for us.

My experience is the same...that is exactly the screen I am getting trying to display an image. The cross site tracking fix did not work for me either. Editing to say that these are images that were created with an iPhone and the iPhone sees them perfectly well from Google Classroom.

I fixed the images problem by deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist, quit out of Safari, restarted it and logged in. Tested in several images in Google Classroom - all good.  Good luck, Kathie Robinson

Editing to warn that this action will delete all saved passwords on webpages in Safari. Know your passwords.

Allow cross site tracking indeed fixes the issue, but it raises a question, why do I have to give up at least some privacy of my children to be profiles by advertisers, for Google Classroom can show me a JPG image?

With all the respect, Google can provide a pretty sophisticated solution and I would assume that showing and JPG image, that is with us since the dawn of the internet, should not be so hard.
