Google Classroom students can't insert Youtube videos into Google Slides assignment
2
I have assigned my students a Google Slides project through Google Classroom where students must insert Youtube videos into Google Slides.  Whenever any of them try to insert the video, it says "video no longer exists.  It may have been removed by the creator."  This has never been a problem in the past.
Any insights would be appreciated!  I do several projects where students have multiple videos playing in Google slides at the same time.

Kamala,

Depending on the age designation of your students and the access settings for YouTube, students might not be able to access YouTube. Your site's Google admin will have control over that.

Hey Mark,

Thanks again for your help.  They have no problem accessing Youtube.  They can watch videos, look up videos and access the links.  The problem only occurs when they try to insert Youtube videos into Google Slides.

Kamala,

Can you confirm that your students are in an over-18 Organizational Unit?

Hey Mark,

They are under 18.  I'm assuming the organizational unit designates them as such.  I'm just confused as to why it changed.   This was never a problem last year.

Thanks!

Kamala,

On September 1st, Google made some fundamental changes dealing with under/over 18 designations. This also complicated the educational domain connection with YouTube. At this point, it might be best if you consulted with your school's Google admin to explorer the exact causes of your current challenge. The solutions are not accessible to you or me.

I am having the same issue, just in the last week. I am also unable to add YouTube videos to my sides which I have always done and have been doing since about 7 days ago.  Something must have changed!  Our tech manager said nothing changed at our school.

Same here. I have always inserted videos into my google slides (specifically videos that are countdown timers which have been critical to my work), I am obviously over 18 so while I understand the fundamental changes to student accounts, why is this also impacting teachers?

Same problem here.  It is interesting that the message that pops up "no longer exists" appears to be from Google Drive.  The child is not trying to embed anything from Google Drive... they are on the "by URL" tab and they paste in a YouTube URL.  Why would they get an error message from Google Drive saying the file may have been removed by the user?

Two weeks ago, I had 1-3 per class with this problem.  Now it's half the class.  For now, they are sending me the URL and I embed the video for them.  I am concerned, seeing a post from another teacher, that this problem may soon extend to me.  I hope not!

I'm having the same issue and I also have access to my schools Google admin. Is there a setting that I need to change for the entire school?

We are also experiencing this issue for our students. Teachers can still embed YouTube videos in Slides, but students cannot. Same message as described earlier by the original poster.

We are also experiencing this issue.
Our students DO have access to YouTube. We have turned on the option for staff to approve specific videos and channels for our district.

I would like to add my name to this list as the Google Admin, students are not able to embed videos that have been approved or not, that are district owned videos or not into Google Slides. Students are not able to complete assignments for teachers, yet teachers are able to embed any video from YouTube they would like into Slides. I hope this is resolved soon, it is causing quite an issue.

We are having the same problem here. Students can still access Youtube, browse to videos, watch them all the way through. Then when they attempt to add the videos using Google Slides the same error pops up stating that the video no longer exists.

I am experiencing the same issue. I'm trying to embed videos into a Google Slides presentation for a class lesson it has the same error, however, I can load the video fine in programs like EdPuzzle. The kids can access YouTube fine.  It's just an issue with Google products.

I am also having this problem, trying to add youtube videos to my slides for lessons. Unavailable or removed error. It does appear to be trying to load from drive instead of youtube.  I am a teacher, over 18. MY CUMBERSOME WORK AROUND that might help some- if I SHARE the slide deck with my personal non workspace google account, then go there, I can add the video to the slide I want, then go back to education account, and video is there. PLEASE let me know how to fix this, I believe something to do with the age settings in google admin, but need more specific info on how to adjust settings so this will work. I would also like students to be able to load video, but most important is teacher ability to do so.

I am experiencing the same issue as an under-18 student. I was able to embed a video into my Google Slide presentation just fine on 9/20/21. But now today, 10/9/21, Google Drive is telling me "The video you selected no longer exists.  The owner may have removed it." when I have it pulled up in YouTube on another tab, perfectly up and running. I hope this gets fixed soon!

My district has this same issue.  Youtube works properly for students, however students can not insert youtube video in google slides via either the built in youtube search or by using the insert URL function.  Please resolve this issue!

Same issue. I frequently ask students to embed videos in slides as part of various assignments and it si telling them this video no longer exists. Extremely frustrating. I really hope this decision on google's behalf is reversed, teaching is hard enough right now without this added difficulty.

I am having the same problem as a teacher.  I make videos where I read assignments for my lower students who struggle with reading.  I cannot embed my own Youtube videos into Google slides (It says they were taken down.)  This is a huge problem and causing my already struggling students to not have their needs met in the easy and efficient way we were used to before.

Also, some of my own videos which were previously embedded into Google slides from before (last summer, last year) are showing the same message - but not all.  This makes posting assignments for students very tricky/unpredictable and causes a lot of confusion in the classroom!

User 15467144755839043632,

I just wanted to assure you that the situation is known to Google and is being investigated. It is not a "decision." This is not the intended behavior of the system.

I want to add this information to this thread in hopes it helps with the debugging process.

Our YouTube settings for our school domain are set as "strict restricted YouTube access" but our organizational units for our Jr.-Sr. High is set as "moderate restricted YouTube access" and is OVERRIDDEN. All of our student grade level organizational units  are all set as "moderate restricted YouTube access" and are INHERITED from the Jr.-Sr. High OU.
Our organizational unit for our students 18 and over (our senior class organizational unit) is allowing students to insert and embed YouTube videos into Google Slides and Sites. All other students in our school district are in organizational units that are for kids under the age of 18 and they are NOT able to insert YouTube videos into Google Slides. Even though we have our YouTube settings through the Google Admin console and  our network content filter settings set so that all students can access and view YouTube videos, they still cannot insert them on other Google apps.
