Join a video meeting for education

You can join a video meeting for distance learning with Google Meet using a computer or mobile device. Depending on how the meeting is set up, you can join in different ways, such as with a link or a nickname.

Before you begin

• If you have an Education edition account and your school type is Primary/Secondary education (K-12), you will not be allowed to join Google Meet video calls created by personal Google Accounts.
• Anonymous users, or users not signed in to a Google Account, will not be able to join meetings organized by Google Workspace for Education users. However, users can still dial in using a phone.
• Depending on how your teacher set up the video meeting, you might have to ask to join before you can enter the meeting.
• You can't request to join a video meeting if you've already been denied twice.

Join a video meeting in Classroom

If your teacher turns on Meet for Classroom, you can join a video meeting for your class. You can join a class video meeting after the teacher starts the meeting.

To use Meet, you have to sign in to Classroom with a school account. Your account looks like [e-mail].

Join a Video Meeting in Google Classroom (Android)

1. Tap Classroom .
2. Tap the class.
3. Choose an option:
   • At the top of the Stream or Classwork page, tap Meet . 
   • On an announcement or post, tap the video meeting link.
4. (Optional) To allow Meet to use your camera and microphone, tap Allow.
5. Before you join, at the bottom, make sure you’re signed in with your school account. If you need to switch accounts, tap Switchselect the Classroom account.
6. To join the class video meeting, tap Join meeting.

Join with a meeting link or invitation 

1. Choose an option:
   • If your teacher shared a meeting link, tap the link or paste it into your browser.
   • If your teacher sent an invitation in an email message, in the message, under Join with Google Meet, tap the meeting link.
2. Before you join, at the bottom, make sure you’re signed in with your school account. If you need to switch accounts, tap Switchselect the Classroom account. 
3. Tap Join meeting. 

Join with a meeting nickname

If your teacher or the meeting organizer shared a meeting nickname with you, you can join a nicknamed meeting.

1. Open Google Meet at meet.google.com or with the Meet app.
2. (Optional) If you’re already signed in to Meet and need to switch to another account, at the top, tap Menu  and select or add your school account. 
3. Tap Meeting codeenter the meeting nickname.
4. Tap Join meeting.

Tip: To see your previous meetings in the Meet app, swipe up.

Join a meeting from a Calendar event

If your teacher or the meeting organizer shares a Google Calendar event with you, you can join the meeting from Calendar. Go to calendar.google.com or use the Calendar app.

1. Open Google Calendar.
2. Sign in with your school account. 
3. On the calendar, tap the eventJoin video call.
4. Before you join, at the bottom, make sure you’re signed in with your school account. If you need to switch accounts, tap Switchselect the Classroom account.
5. Tap Join meeting.

Join a meeting from Gmail

You can start or join video meetings in Gmail on your computer or mobile device. For details, go to Start or join a video call from Gmail.

Tip: If you don't see this option, contact your Google Workspace administrator.
