FAQ for SIS mark export

This article is for teachers and administrators.

By 1 July 2024, to use the mark export feature, all teachers must have one of the following:

  • A Google Workspace for Education Plus licence
  • A G Suite Enterprise for Education licence
  • A Teaching and Learning Upgrade licence

The student information system (SIS) mark export feature is available for these partners:

  • Infinite Campus users with the Campus learning licence
  • Skyward SMS 2.0 users with the LMS API licence
  • Skyward Qmlativ users with the OneRoster® API licence
  • Follett Aspen users of version 6.2 or above

Here are some common questions about mark export to your SIS.

Mark export status

How do I check the date and time of my last mark export?
  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. On the class card, click Open student record .
  3. On the 'Marks' page, next to 'SIS export', click the down arrow .

How do I know if an export was successful?

After an export finishes, you can check the SIS export details report.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. On the class card, click Open student record .
  3. Next to 'SIS export', click the down arrow and then Last export details.
  4. Optional: Review the SIS export details report and fix any errors.
How can I fix export errors?

Step 1: Open your SIS export details report

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. On the class card, click Open student record .
  3. Next to 'SIS export', click the down arrow and then Last export details.

Step 2: For each item that failed to export, ensure the following and try exporting again:

  • The classwork due date is in the current SIS marking period.
  • The students' Classroom email addresses match their email addresses in the SIS.
  • The classwork title is not too long.
How do I know when an export finishes?

You can check if an export is finished or still in progress.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. On the class card, click Open student record .
  3. When an export is in progress, on the 'Marks' page, the 'SIS export' button shows 'Exporting' and you see 'Export in progress'.

  4. Optional: To check when the last export finished, next to 'SIS export', click the down arrow and then Last export details.

Availability

Who can connect an SIS to Classroom?

Administrators can connect Classroom to the SIS.

To use SIS mark export, your school or institution:

  • Must use one of the following SISs:
    • Infinite Campus: You must have a Campus learning licence through Infinite Campus.
    • Skyward SMS 2.0: You must use Skyward version 2.0 and have the LMS API licence.
    • Skyward Qmlativ: You must use Skyward Qmlativ and have the OneRoster® API licence.
    • Follett Aspen: You must use version 6.2 or above
    • Partnerships with other SISs are in development. Learn more.
    • A Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that your SIS provider fully hosts and manages.
  • Must use Classroom with Google Workspace for Education.
  • Must be OneRoster compliant. If your SIS is not OneRoster compliant, use the Classroom API for mark export instead.

After admins set up the connection, teachers can link their Classroom classes and export marks to the SIS. Only the teacher listed as the primary teacher in the SIS can link the class.

Which SISs are supported?
We support Infinite Campus, Skyward SMS 2.0 (SaaS customers only), Skyward Qmlativ and Follett Aspen. Other SIS partnerships are in development.

Why do I need a Google Workspace for Education account to use SIS mark export?
The connection between the SIS and Classroom is managed by a Google Workspace for Education admin. The connection can't be set up without a Google Workspace for Education account.

Important: Support is only available if your district uses a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that your SIS provider fully hosts and manages.

How can I provide feedback about SIS mark export?
  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. In the lower left-hand corner, click Help and then Report issue or request feature.
  3. Enter your feedback and click Send.
How's an assign date for an assignment determined during SIS mark export?

The assignment's publish date determines the assign date. However, if you post an assignment after the due date, outside the SIS class dates or outside the SIS marking period, we use an assign date that's shortly before the given due date.

Infinite Campus FAQ

Which version of Infinite Campus is compatible with mark export?

Google Classroom supports mark export for regions that run a SaaS solution that Infinite Campus fully hosts and manages. Mark export is not available for regions with servers managed by non-SIS providers.

Non-SIS providers:

  • Infinite Campus software that runs through on-premise deployment
  • Cloud deployments that Infinite Campus doesn’t manage
  • District-hosted deployments that run across multiple organisations and admin groups

Important: Infinite Campus doesn’t control the maintenance and configuration of servers managed by non-SIS providers. Firewalls, query throughput and latency differences, and other factors may vary between deployments, which Google Classroom is unable to support.

What are the requirements for mark export to Infinite Campus?
  • Mark export to classes in the SIS relies on the email address field for students, so a valid Google Workspace for Education email address is needed for successful export.
  • Infinite Campus will assign a default mark category for all assignments. You can adjust this mark category later in Infinite Campus.
  • Assignment titles are truncated to 50 characters when they are imported into the SIS.
  • All co-teachers can export marks, even co-teachers outside your Google Workspace for Education domain.
  • All assignments must have a due date and be within the marking period set up in Infinite Campus.
  • When connected with OneRoster 1.1, mark categories don't carry over when you export your marks to your SIS. Your marks might be assigned to a default category or marked as 'Uncategorised'.
  • When connected with OneRoster 1.2, mark categories carry over if the category titles match. If they don't match, your marks might be assigned to a default category or marked as 'Uncategorised'.

Which version of Skyward is compatible with mark export?

Your school districts can use mark export if you:

  • Use Skyward SMS 2.0 with the LMS API licence and use a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution in a cloud-based instance.
  • Use Skyward Qmlativ with the OneRoster® API licence.
What are the requirements for mark export to Skyward?

To use mark export with Skyward SMS 2.0 and Skyward Qmlativ:

  • All assignments must have a due date within the SIS marking period.
  • Assignment titles and their due dates must be unique in a class to avoid duplicates.
  • Instructors must have returned marks on the Classroom Marks page.
  • Linking existing Classroom classes to classes in the SIS relies on the email address field for students. Valid Google Workspace for Education email addresses are required and must match the email addresses in the SIS.

Aspen FAQ

Which version of Aspen is compatible with mark export?

Your school district can connect Classroom to Aspen if you:

  • Use Follett Aspen version 6.2 or above
  • Use a SaaS solution that is fully hosted and managed by Follett Aspen
What are the requirements for mark export to Aspen?
  • Valid Google Workspace for Education email addresses are needed and must match the email addresses in the SIS. Mark export relies on the email address field for students.
  • All assignments must have a due date within the SIS marking period.
  • Instructors must have returned marks on the Classroom marks page.
  • Mark categories carry over if the category titles match. If they don't match, your marks might be assigned to a default category or marked as 'Uncategorised'.
  • Assignment titles over 50 characters will be truncated when they're imported into the SIS.
  • Assignment total points must be greater than 0. We support point values of up to 5 digits with two decimal places, for an overall maximum of 9999.9 or 999.99.
  • Co-teachers from outside your Google Workspace for Education domain can't export marks.
