Create or reuse a rubric for an assignment

This article is for teachers.

In Classroom, you can create, reuse, and grade with rubrics for individual assignments. You can also export rubrics to share them with other teachers. 

You can give feedback with scored or unscored rubrics. If a rubric is scored, students see their scores when you return their assignments.

Note: You might notice slight visual differences between tablets and phones.
On a mobile device, you and your students can only view rubrics. To create, edit, or delete a rubric, use your computer.

See an assignment’s rubric

You can see a rubric on a mobile device after creating it on the web version of Classroom.
  1. Tap Classroom Classroom appand thenthe class.
  2. Tap Classwork.
  3. Tap the assignmentand thenInstructionsand thenthe rubric.
  4. (Optional) To see a criterion’s level descriptions, tap the criterion and then scroll horizontally.

Generate a rubric using Gemini
  1. On your computer, go to Google Classroom.
  2. Select a class.
  3. Click Classwork and then the assignment.
  4. On the right, click Rubric and then  Generate new .
    • To learn more about how to use rubrics, click Info.
  5. Add a grade level and performance levels.
  6. Either Add from Drive and then Select a file.
    • Describe the knowledge or skills you want students to demonstrate.
  7. Or Enter instructions.
    • Add assignment instructions 
    • Describe the knowledge or skills you want students to demonstrate.
  8. Click Generate criteria
  9. Review or modify rubric criteria, then click Generate rubric
  10. (Optional) To edit the rubric, you can:
    • Turn Use scoring on or off.
    • Sort the order of points by “Descending” or “Ascending.”
    • Edit criterion tiles, descriptions, or levels.
    • Add a criterion.
  11. At the top right, click Save.
