Randomly select a student

This article is for teachers

To randomly call on your students, you can use Classroom’s Student selector. The Student selector randomly picks students from your class roster. You can call on a student, skip a student to call on later, or mark a student as absent.

This feature is available only on Android devices.

Note: Students can’t see the Student selector.

Select a student
  1. On your Android device, tap Classroom Classroom and then your class and then People.
  2. In the top-right corner, tap Student selector Student selector.
  3. Choose one:
    • Call on the student shown.
    • To call on the student later, under the student name, tap Call Later.
    • To mark the student as absent, under the student name, tap Absent.
    • To call on another student, tap Next.
  4. (Optional) At the end of the session, if you want to start over, tap Start Again.
See the class roster

To see a list of who has been marked as Picked, Not Picked, or Absent, go to the class roster.

  1. On your Android device, tap Classroom Classroom and then your class and then People.
  2. In the top-right corner, tap Student selector Student selector.
  3. Under their numbers, tap Not Picked, Picked, or Absent.
    You’ll see a list of students who have been not picked, picked, and absent.
  4. To return to the student selector, in the top-left corner, tap Back Back.
Reset the Student Selector
  1. On your Android device, tap Classroom Classroom and then your class and then People.
  2. In the top-right corner, tap Student selector Student selector.
  3. In the top-right corner, tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset again to confirm.
    All students are marked as Not Picked.
