As a Classroom teacher, you can post resource materials, such as a syllabus, classroom rules, or topic-related reading, to the Classwork page.
Like other types of posts on the Classwork page, materials can be organized by topic, reordered, and scheduled to post later.
When you add materials to the Classwork page, you can:
Add materials

Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.
Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.com. Learn more.
- Click the class Classwork.
- At the top, click Create Material.
- Enter a title and a description.
Add attachments
You can add attachments to your material, such as files from your computer, Google Drive files, YouTube videos, or links.
- Follow the steps above to add material.
- Click Add choose an option:
- File
- Google Drive
- Important: Google Drive items are view-only to students and editable by co-teachers. To change these sharing options, go to Stop, limit, or change sharing.
- YouTube
- Important: YouTube attachments are only available to users when this option is turned on by the administrator. Learn more about access settings for your Google Workspace for Education account.
- Link
- If you see a message that you don’t have permission to attach a file, click Copy. Classroom makes a copy of the file to attach to the material and saves it to the class Drive folder.
- (Optional) To delete an attachment, next to it, click Remove .
Select additional classes
Materials posted to multiple classes go to all students in those classes.
- Follow the steps above to add material.
- Under For, click the Down arrow select the class or classes you want to include.
Select individual students
Unless you’re selecting multiple classes, you can select individual students. You can’t select more than 100 students at a time.
- Follow the steps above to add material.
- Next to All students, click the Down arrow All students to deselect it.
- Click a student’s name to select them.
Note: You’ll see the number of students you posted to in the class stream. To view the students’ names, click number students on the material.
Add a topic
You can only add one topic to an item.
- Follow the steps above to add material.
- Next to Topic, click the Down arrow .
- Choose an option:
- To create a topic, click Create topic and enter a topic name.
- To select a topic in the list, click it.

You can post material immediately, or you can schedule it to post later. If you don’t want to post it yet, you can save it as a draft. To see scheduled and drafted items, click Classwork.
Post material
- Follow the steps above to add material.
- Click Post to immediately post the material.
Schedule the material to post later
Scheduled materials might be delayed up to 5 minutes after the post time.
- Follow the steps above to create material and select classes.
- To schedule the same material across multiple classes, make sure to select all classes you want to include.
- Next to Post, click the Down arrow Schedule.
- Next to the date, click the Down arrow and select a publish date and time for each class.
- When you enter a time, Classroom defaults to PM unless you specify AM.
- For multiple classes only:
- (Optional) Select a topic for each class.
- (Optional) To replicate your selected time and date for the first class into all subsequent classes, click Copy settings to all.
- Click Schedule. The material will automatically post at the scheduled date and time.
Save material as a draft
- Follow the steps above to add material.
- Next to Post, click the Down arrow Save draft.
Edits affect individual classes. For multi-class materials, make edits in each class.
Edit posted material
- On the Classwork page, next to the material, click More Edit.
- Enter your changes and click Save.
Edit scheduled material
- On the Classwork page, next to the material, click More Edit.
- Enter your changes and click Schedule.
Edit draft material
- On the Classwork page, next to the material, click More Edit.
- Enter your changes.
Changes are automatically saved.
- Choose an option:
- Post it immediately (details above).
- Schedule it to post at a specific date and time (details above).
- To keep it a draft and return to the Classwork page, at the top, click Close .
Reorder materials on the Classwork page
If you add a topic to an item, you can change the order of the topics and posts on the Classwork page. For details, go to Reorder posts under a topic or Reorder topics.
