Add topics to the Classwork page

This article is for teachers.

You can group assignments, quiz assignments, questions, and class materials under topics. If you don’t assign a topic, the post shows at the top of the Classwork page. You can reorder the posts under a topic and rearrange topics to follow your curriculum. Students only see topics that have published posts.

Create a topic

  1. Tap Classroom and then the class.
  2. Tap Classwork  and then Add and then Topic.
  3. Enter a topic name.
  4. Tap Create.

Students only see topics that have published posts.

Add a topic to assignments, quiz assignments, or questions

You can add only one topic to an assignment, quiz assignment, or question. If an assignment is posted to several classes, editing the assignment in one class doesn't update it in the other classes.

  1. Tap Classroom and then the class.
  2. Tap Classwork .
  3. To edit, tap the assignment, quiz assignment, or question.
  4. At the top, tap More and then Edit and then Topic .
  5. Choose an option:
    • To create a topic, tap New topic, then enter a topic name.
    • To select a topic in the list, tap the topic name.
  6. To confirm, tap Done.

Add a topic to class materials

You can add only one topic to class materials. For details on class materials creation, go to Add materials to the Classwork page.

  1. Tap Classroom and then the class.
  2. Tap Classwork  and then the class material.
  3. At the top, tap More and then Edit and then Topic .
  4. Choose an option:
    • To create a topic, tap New topic, then enter a topic name.
    • To select a topic in the list, tap the topic name.
  5. To confirm, tap Done.

Filter by topic

You can see all your posts for a topic and quickly move between topics with the topic filter.
  1. Tap Classroom and then the class.
  2. Tap Classwork .
  3. At the top, tap Filter and then choose a topic.
    You’ll see posts for that topic. If you haven’t yet posted to the topic, you’ll see “Nothing posted with this topic.”
  4. Optional: To return to your topics, tap Filter again.
  5. Optional: To return to the Classwork page:
    • Within a topic, tap Back .
    • From the topics menu, tap Close .

Reorder topics

  1. Tap Classroom and then the class.
  2. Tap Classwork .
  3. Touch and hold the topic to drag it to a new position.

Reorder posts under a topic

You can change the order of assignments, materials, and other work under the same topic.

  1. Tap Classroom and then the class.
  2. Tap Classwork .
  3. Touch and hold the post to drag it to a new position.

Rename a topic

  1. Tap Classroom and then the class.
  2. Tap Classwork .
  3. Next to the topic name, tap More and then Rename topic.
  4. Enter a new name.
  5. Tap Rename.

Delete a topic

Deleting a topic doesn’t delete the posts under it. Posts move to the top of the list on the Classwork page.

  1. Tap Classroom and then the class.
  2. Tap Classwork .
  3. Next to the topic name, tap More and then Delete topic.
  4. To confirm, tap Delete.
