See or change class details

This article is for teachers.

After you create a class, you can see or change your class details. Class details include:

  • Basic information, such as the class name, section, and room number
  • Settings for posts to your Stream page
  • Your class video meeting link 
  • Your class code

You can change class details on your Settings page. If you have multiple sections of the same class, changes made to one class do not apply to the others. 

Edit a class name, description, section, room, or subject

A class name is required. If you edit the class name, the class Drive folder name isn't updated. Go to Drive and rename the folder.

  1. Tap Classroom "".
  2. Tap the classand thenStreamand thenSettings Settings.

    Click Settings

    The class name is automatically entered.

  3. Tap a field and enter your changes.

    Note: Blank fields don't show in the student view.

  4. Tap Save.
Turn off, reset, or copy the class code

When you create a class, Classroom automatically creates a class code. If students have trouble with the class code, you can reset it. If you don't want new students to join your class, you can disable the code. You can enable it any time.

Note: When you reset or enable a class code, Classroom creates a new code for the class. The previous code no longer works.

  1. Tap Classroom "".
  2. Tap the classand thenStreamand thenSettings Settings.

    Click Settings

  3. Next to Class code, tap More ""and thenselect an option:
    • To turn off the class code, select Disable class code.
    • To turn on a disabled code, select Enable class code.
    • To reset the code, select Reset class code.
  4. (Optional) To copy the class code, tap the code.
  5. Tap Close "" to close Settings.

Note: To display the class code with a projector, use the computer version of Classroom.

Choose how Classwork notifications appear on the Stream page

You can choose whether the Classwork notifications show on the Stream page, and what details the notifications show.

  1. Tap Classroom "".
  2. Tap the classand thenStreamand thenSettings Settings.
    Click Settings
  3. Tap Classwork on the stream and select an option:
    • Show attachments and details—Students see an expanded view of notifications.
      Expanded view
    • Show condensed notifications—Students see notifications without attachments and details.
      Condensed view
    • Hide notifications—No Classwork notifications show on the Stream page.
  4. Tap Save.

Note: Only teachers see an assignment's turned in, assigned, and graded totals.

Control who posts to the Stream page

Students can post messages on the Stream page and comment on posts from you and from classmates. You can control students’ posts by setting permissions for individual students or the whole class. 

  1. Tap Classroom "".
  2. Tap the classand thenStreamand thenSettings Settings.

    Click Settings

  3. Tap Stream posting and select an option:
    • Students can post and comment—(Default) Students can create a post on the Stream page and comment on any item.
    • Students can only comment—Students can comment on an existing post, but not create a post.
    • Only teachers can post or comment—Students can't comment on or create posts on the Stream page. This setting is the same as muting all students.
      Note: For details about muting and unmuting a student, go to Set student post and sharing permissions.
  4. Tap Close "" to close Settings.
