Post to the class stream

You can share information and questions with your teachers and classmates in the class stream using posts and comments. Everyone in the class can see posts and comments. You cannot post if a teacher turned off permissions to post.

A teacher can delete posts. Only a teacher can see deleted posts.

Ways to post

  • You write a post in the class stream to share with your class—teacher and classmates.
  • A comment is a reply to a post or comment. They’re shared with the class, too.

Create a post

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. Click the class.
  3. Choose an option:
    • For classes with the Classwork page, click Share something with your class.

      Share something with your class

    • For classes without the Classwork page, point to Add Add and then click Create post Create post.

      Note: If you don’t see Share something with your class or Add Add, a teacher turned off permissions to post.

  4. Enter your announcement and click Post.

Add an image, file, video, or link to your post

You can attach items to your post, such as images, files, Google Drive items, YouTube videos, or links.

  1. Follow the steps above to create a post.
  2. Attach an item to your post:
    • To attach an image or file:
      1. Click Attach Attach.
      2. Drag files to attach or select them from your computer.
      3. Click Upload.
    • To attach a Drive item: 
      1. Click Drive Drive and select your file.
      2. Click Add.
    • To attach a YouTube video, click YouTube YouTube and choose an option:
      • Search for a video.
        1. Enter keywords and click Search Search.
        2. Click the video and then Add.
      • Attach a video link:
        1. Click URL and enter the URL.
        2. Click Add.
    • To attach a link:
      1. Click Link Link and enter the URL.
      2. Click Add Link.
  3. Click Post.

    Note: If you see a message that you don’t have permission to attach a file, click Copy. Classroom makes a copy to attach to your post and saves it to the class Drive folder.

Delete a post

You can only delete a post that you created.

If you delete a post that you created, all the comments associated with it are deleted as well. You can't undo this action. However, your teacher can see all deleted posts.
  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. Click the class.
  3. On the post, click More More and then Delete.
  4. Click Delete to confirm.

Add a class comment to a post

A teacher can delete comments. You cannot add a comment to a post if a teacher turned off permissions to post.

You can’t add pictures, links, or videos to comments. Comments are text-only.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. Click the class.
  3. Find the post and in the Add class comment box, enter your comment.
  4. Click Post.

Reply to a comment

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. Click the class.
  3. Point to the comment and click Reply Reply.

    The person you are replying to is automatically mentioned in your reply.

    Click Reply

  4. Enter your reply and click Post.

Delete a comment

You can only delete a comment that you created.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example, you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.comLearn more.

  2. Click the class.
  3. On the comment, click More More and then Delete.
  4. Click Delete to confirm.

Add a private comment

You have several ways to send a private comment:

  • When your teacher assigns you work, you can send a private comment to your teacher with the assignment or question.
  • You can send an email to a teacher or classmate. For details, see Send an email.
