This article is for admins. Before using Google Assignments, an admin must turn it on for their domain. Once it’s turned on, instructors can learn more about using Assignments here. If you have additional questions on using Assignments in your LMS, check out Moodle’s help guides for admins and instructors or write in the Assignments Community Forum.
To set up Google Assignments in your learning management system (LMS), admins need to:
- Generate a Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) key and a secret code in the Assignments Admin Console (assignments.google.com/admin).
- Use the generated LTI key and secret code to set up Assignments as an LTI tool in your LMS.
- Note: Moodle is customizable, so the screenshots may differ from how your institution set it up.
- In Moodle, sign in as an administrator.
- Click Administration → Site administration → Plugins → Activity modules → External tool → Manage tools.
- To set up the Assignments tool, click configure a tool manually.
- Under External tool configuration, enter the following information:

- Tool name: Enter Google Assignments.
- Tool base URL/cartridge URL: Enter https://assignments.google.com/lti/a
- Tool description: Leave blank.
- Consumer key: Enter your key.
- Shared secret: Enter your secret.
- Customer parameters: Leave blank.
- Tool configuration usage: Select Show as pre-configured tool when adding an external tool.
- Default launch container: Select Embed without blocks.
- (Moodle 3.5 and higher) Check Content Item box.
- Under Privacy, enter the following information:
- Share launcher’s name with tool: Select Always.
- Share launcher’s email with tool: Select Always.
- Accept grades from the tool: Select Always.
- Select Force SSL.
8. Click Save
