Share and access notebooks & Gems

Share notebooks in Gemini Notebook and Gemini Gems with students within the Gemini LTI™ tool. This allows easy access to course materials within your learning management system (LMS).

Share notebooks & Gems

Important:

  • Only the instructors of the course can share notebooks and Gems through Gemini LTI™ integration.
    • Notebooks can only be shared with users in the same domain.
    • Gem sharing will follow any existing Google Drive sharing and/or Gem sharing policies admins have in place.
    • Students are granted read access to notebooks and Gems. Other instructors and admins are granted write access.
  • Students can access the notebooks and Gems but cannot share them through Gemini LTI™.

Create & Share notebooks & Gems via sidebar

Important: You can access the sidebar only in Canvas and PowerSchool Schoology Learning.

You can add or remove existing notebooks and Gems to automatically share with students and co-instructors.

  1. In your LMS, sign in with your admin or teacher account.
  2. Open the course.
  3. In the sidebar on the left, click the Gemini LTI™ tool.
  4. Create new or add existing items:
    • To create a new notebook or Gem:
      1. Click Create new.
      2. In the pop-up or new Gemini Notebook tab:
        1. Enter the title.
        2. Click Save.
      3. Click the newly created notebook or Gem to configure it.
    • To add existing notebooks or Gems:
      1. Click Add to course.
      2. Select the items.
      3. Click Add to course.

Remove notebooks & Gems via sidebar

Important: You can access the sidebar only in Canvas and PowerSchool Schoology Learning.

If you're an instructor, you can remove the notebooks and Gems you share through the Gemini LTI tool.

  1. In your LMS, sign in with your account.
  2. In the sidebar on the left:
    1. Click Courses.
    2. Select a course.
    3. Click the Gemini LTI™ tool.
  3. In "Manage notebooks" or "Manage Gems," find the notebook or Gem you want to remove.
  4. Click More and then Remove.

Tip: When you remove a notebook or Gem, users who got their access through Gemini LTI lose their access. They also lose access to any Gem knowledge files that were shared through Gemini LTI.

Access notebooks & Gems via sidebar

Important: You can access the sidebar only in Canvas and PowerSchool Schoology Learning.

If you're a co-instructor or student, you can access shared notebooks and Gems through the Gemini LTI™ tool.

  1. In your LMS, sign in with your account.
  2. In the sidebar on the left:
    1. Click Courses.
    2. Select a course.
    3. Click the Gemini LTI™ tool.
  3. Access notebooks and Gems.
    • You can find the notebooks under "Course notebooks."
    • You can find the Gems under "Course Gems."

Create and share notebooks and Gems directly in a resource. You can also add notebook or Gem links directly in a resource, like announcements, modules, activities, and materials.

  • In Canvas: You can attach notebooks and Gems to text editors and modules.
    1. To access "External tools" in your Rich Content Editor, open the external Apps toolbar menu.
    2. Click the Gemini LTI™ tool.
    3. In the window that opens, click Select notebook or Select Gem and then Add to course and then Add.
  • In PowerSchool Schoology Learning: You can attach notebooks and Gems as course materials to the text editors and courses.
    1. In your Rich Text Editor, open the Insert content menu.
    2. Click the Gemini LTI™ tool.
    3. Select a notebook or Gem.
      • You can also add a notebook or Gem link as a material.
  • In Moodle: You can attach notebooks and Gems to course activities and resources.
    1. Open your course.
    2. At the top right, turn on Edit mode.
    3. At the bottom, click Add and then Activity or resource.
    4. In the activity list, select Google Gemini and then Add.
    5. Add a notebook or Gem:
      1. Under "General," click Select content.
      2. In "Add course material," select Select notebook or Select Gem.
      3. Select a notebook or Gem and then Add to course and then Add.
