This article is for Google Workspace administrators.
Any user in your domain can always join a course in your domain. You can also decide if users from other domains can join your courses. For example, you might want to open courses to students and instructors from other domains. You can also control if your users can join courses outside of your domain.
Set course membership
Set who can join your courses as a studentBefore you begin: If you need to set up a department or team for this setting, go to Add an organizational unit.

Sign in to your Google Admin console.
Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

In the Admin console, go to Menu AppsGoogle WorkspaceGoogle Workspace LTI™.

Click Course SettingsCourse Membership.

(Optional) To apply the setting to a department or team, at the side, select an organizational unit. Show me how

Under Who can join courses in your domain as a student, choose an option:

Users in your domain only—Only users in your domain can join courses as a student.

Users in allowlisted domains—Users from domains on your allowlist can join courses in your domain as a student. Google Workspace administrators from those domains must add your domain to their allowlist.

Any Google Workspace user—Any user with a Google Workspace account can join courses in your domain.

Any user—(Default) Any user with a Google Workspace or personal Google Account can join courses in your domain.

Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.
To later restore the inherited value, click Inherit.

Use an allowlist for trusted domains
When you put a domain on an allowlist, your users can join courses in that domain and their users can join your courses. You can have up to 50 domains on your allowlist. Subdomains and domain aliases aren’t included when you put a domain on your allowlist. You can only add a Google Workspace domain to your allowlist.
To add or remove a domain on your allowlist:

Sign in to your Google Admin console.
Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

In the Admin console, go to Menu AppsGoogle WorkspaceGoogle Workspace LTI™.

Click Course Settings.

Next to Allowlisted domains, choose an option:

To add a domain, click Configure or EditAdd new. Enter the full address of the domain and click Add Domain to Allowlist.

To remove a domain, click Edit. Point to the name of the domain, click RemoveRemove from Allowlist.
Changes can take up to 24 hours but typically happen more quickly. Learn more -
For the allowlist to work properly with Assignments, the Google Workspace administrators for both domains need to make changes in their Google Admin consoles. Next, they must configure Google Drive settings to allow file sharing between the domains. Learn more about working with external Google Workspace domains..

If you allow users from external domains to join your courses, you must configure your Google Drive settings to allow file sharing outside of your organization. These settings are necessary to turn in and return assignments.
