Google Earth / Maps route animation (travel from point A to B)

Hi,

I have 3 examples below with the hour, minute, second section of interest.  How do I make a similar animation?  I'm focused on only the "traveling" route, not the place names or locations, etc...  I know those and other neato effects will need to be added in After Effects or some other video program.  So no need to go into that kind of detail.

But I'm thinking the "traveling" dot from point A to point B should be fairly easy since

  1. Google Maps / Earth already contains the road twists, turns and curves in the route, so no need to reinvent the wheel so to speak, and
  2. I'm simply traveling from point A to point B - it seems like it should be the easiest thing in the world to animate such a thing, especially since Earth already has "tours" and flyovers and such after choosing your From and To locations.

But I'm stumped...How did they do this?

Thank you.

Hi Lashin, unfortunately Eurosport has blocked the first two videos in my country. However, this might be what you are looking for: https://sites.google.com/site/kmltouring/animating-a-line.

The KMLtouring site is very useful for everything concerning tours.

Hi Lashin,

If you're already familiar with After Effects, you should check out Google Earth Studio.  It's the natural successor to Google Earth Pro tours and movies.  It has user control that is what you wish for when making a tour and uses the same type UX as After Effects.  There are a lot of YouTube tutorials and examples.

Here's a video about animating a path.  He's using Google My Maps to create the path but you could use GE Pro just as easily.

Relive - this is what the creator of the 3rd example used.  It's a smartphone app that's usually used for already-taken rides, drives, etc.  But I imagine it can also be used for pre-viz routes.
