I'm trying to overlay a satellite image over Earth. The classic "Add Image Overlay" method doesn't work because the program is assuming that the image uses mercator projection, which is not true. Due to the nature of the image, there is no special projection required.
Here's the image in question;

Hi Darek,

The program doesn't assume any particular projection.  Google Earth doesn't have a projection in many respects, unlike a paper map.  It's a digital representation of real earth.

It's possible to twist almost any image to fit. it just takes persistence.  Also, using the Shift key changes the way the parts of the green box work.  Google has instructions Here.

I hope that helps.

I don't think it is possible. The problem is that Google Earth tries to curve the straight borders of the image inwards. Here on the image I've outlined how I want the image to curve:

Hi, I'm not sure if this will help, but have you tried in the Location tab to select "Convert to lat long quad"? Then try moving the corners again.

Hi Darek,

That image is never going to make a convex curve at the top.  The reason doesn't have anything to do with Mercator projection.  Mercator projection is what Google Maps is using when you have the Globe option turned off.  Any map projection is an attempt to display a sphere on a flat surface.

Google Earth Pro's image overlay feature is only displaying your satellite image of the spherical earth on a digital sphere, as closely as possible.  The image borders have to curve to fit the sphere, not some other view you would like them to.

The version of the image you posted here is distorted somehow, possibly by the forum software.  A Google image search can't find the original.  Please post the location of the original and we'll be glad to try to fit it to real earth.

We're glad to help.
