You can add features such as placemarks, lines, shapes, and fullscreen slides to your Projects.

Tip: After you add features, you can share your project or export it as a KML file. If your project has other contributors, to find recent changes, refresh your project.

Add placemarks directly to your map
  1. On your computer, open Google Earth.
  2. Click Launch Earth.
  3. On the left, click Projects Projects.
  4. Click the project you want to open.
    • If you don’t have a project, create one.
  5. Click New feature and then Add placemark.
  6. On the map, click where you want to add a placemark.
    • To move around, drag the map or click Zoom In Zoom in or Zoom Out Zoom out.
  7. Under “Place title,” add a name for your placemark.
  8. Under “Add to project,” click the Down arrow Down arrow and select or add a project folder.
  9. Click Save.

Your placemark shows on the map and in the project details panel.

Add placemarks with Search
  1. On your computer, open Google Earth.
  2. Click Launch Earth.
  3. On the left, click Projects Projects.
  4. Click the project you want to open.
    • If you don’t have a project, create one.
  5. Click New feature and then Search to add a place.
  6. Enter the place you want to find.
  7. In the Knowledge Card, click Add to project.
  8. Under “Place title,” add a name for your placemark.
  9. Under “Add to project,” click the Down arrow Down arrow and select or add a project folder.
  10. Click Save.
    • To edit the description or icon that Google provided, or to set a manual view: Click Edit place
    • To edit other features: Click the Back arrow Back.

Your placemark shows on the map and in the project details panel.

Add placemarks with a Knowledge Card
  1. On your computer, open Google Earth.
  2. Click Launch Earth.
  3. On the map, search for a location.
  4. Click the placemark you want to add
  5. In the Knowledge Card, click Add to project.
  6. Under “Place title,” you can add or edit the name.
  7. Under “Add to project,” click the Down arrow Down arrow and select or add a project folder.
  8. Click Save.

Your placemark shows in the project details panel.

Add or edit lines & shapes
  1. On your computer, open Google Earth.
  2. Click Launch Earth.
  3. On the left, click Projects Projects.
  4. Click the project you want to open.
    • If you don’t have a project, create one.
  5. Click New feature and then Draw line or shape.
  6. To add a line or shape, on the map, choose a location and click to add your first point in a series of points. Each click adds a new segment.
    • To finish a line, press Enter.
    • To close your shape, click your starting location again.
  7. Under “Place title,” add a title.
    • To edit a new line or shape, click Edit place.
      • To change the size or position of your line or shape: Drag any point, then release.
      • To change the line width: Under “Outline width and color," click the Down arrow Down arrow and select a width.
      • To change the line color: Under “Outline width and color,” click one of the color palette options. To create your own palette, click Custom colors.
      • To change the size of the info box: Under “Info box,” click the Down arrow Down arrow and select a size.
  8. Click Save.

Tip: To edit a saved line or shape, click it and then Edit. Choose what you want to edit.

Add a fullscreen slide to your project
  1. On your computer, open Google Earth.
  2. Click Launch Earth.
  3. On the left, click Projects Projects.
  4. Click the project you want to open.
    • If you don’t have a project, create one.
  5. Click New feature and then Fullscreen slide.
    • To preview your slide, click Preview presentation.
Add tiled overlays to your project
Tiled overlays show location-based data layers that cover a specific area on top of your map.
  1. On your computer, open Google Earth.
  2. Click Launch Earth.
  3. On the left, click Projects Projects.
  4. Click the project you want to open.
    • If you don’t have a project, create one.
  5. Click New feature and then Tiled overlay .
    • Enter the Overlay URL.
