See altitude and coordinates

You can see the longitude and latitude of different places around the world using Google Earth. You can check the altitude, too.

See a place's coordinates 

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Earth app Google Earth.

  2. Search for a place, or tap and drag the screen until you see the view you want. 

  3. In the bottom right corner of the screen, you'll see the longitude and latitude.

Note: If you move the globe, the coordinates will update. 

Use coordinates to find a place

If you know a place’s coordinates, you can use them to find it on Google Earth.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Earth app Google Earth​.

  2. At the top, tap Search Search
  3. Type the coordinates using one of these formats:
    • Decimal Degrees: 42.7°, -100.2°
    • Degrees, Minutes, Seconds:  64°25'12.07"N, 100°10'15.24"W

See a place's altitude  

You can also see a place’s altitude, or its height from the ground or sea.

  1. Search for a place, or adjust Google Earth until you see the view you want.

  2. In the bottom right corner, you'll see the altitude in either meters (m) or kilometers (km). 

Choose how to see altitude

You can change how Google Earth measures altitude and distance.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Earth app Google Earth.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Settings Settings.
  3. Tap Units of measurement.
  4. Pick an option.
