Import your KML map data into Google Earth

You can view and share Google Earth information using KML files. You’ll see placemarks, satellite images, and other geographic info.

If you have a KML file from an older version of Google Earth, you can open it in Google Earth for iPhone and iPad.

Note: Your saved places will only appear on the device you saved them on.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Earth app Google Earth.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then My Places.
  3. At the bottom, tap Import KML file.
  4. Select the KML file.
  5. To return to the map and view the KML file, tap Back Back.

Add KML files from Google Drive

You can import KML and KMZ files from your Google Drive into the Google Earth app.

  1. Make sure you've installed the Google Drive app.
  2. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Earth app Google Earth.
  3. Tap Menu Menu and then My Places.
  4. At the bottom, tap Import KML file.
  5. In the next screen, on the top left, tap Locations. 
  6. On the bottom, tap More More and then turn on Drive and then Done.
  7. Tap Drive and then choose an account.
  8. Choose a file. It will be added to your list of places.

  • To explore a KML file’s folders, use Google Earth on your computer.
  • You can turn on or off the entire KML file in the app.
