Search for places

You can use Google Earth to find places like cities, landmarks, and parks. Before you explore, you'll see some suggested search categories like "Places," "Games," "Guided Tours," and "Data Layers."

What you can search for

Here are some ways you can look up locations:

  • City and state: Mountain View, CA
  • City and country: Port-au-Prince, Haiti
  • Street name: Newbury Street, Boston
  • Entire address: 221B Baker St, London, NW1 6XE
  • Zip or postal code: 02129
  • Longitude and latitude18°28’59"N 69°56’21"W or 18.4830556, -69.9391667
  • General places: Museums in Costa Rica

Look up a place

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Earth app Google Earth.
  2. At the top, tap Search Search.
  3. Enter a location.
  4. To learn more about the location, tap the box (Knowledge Card).

See stories

When you look for a place, related Voyager stories may appear in the search results.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Earth app Google Earth.
  2. At the top, tap Search Search.
  3. Enter the place you want to find.
  4. In the results, under "Voyager stories," you’ll see your options. To view a story, tap it.

Discover places at random

To quickly travel to a new, random location, at the top, tap I’m Feeling Lucky I’m Feeling Lucky.

  • For info about and photos of that location, tap the Knowledge Card.
  • To see related places and other interesting locales, swipe through the Knowledge Cards.

Clear your search history

To remove your previous search results:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Google Earth Google Earth.
  2. On the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Tap Clear search history.
