You can find a person to call via Duo if they're in your contacts. If they're not in your contacts but they use Duo, you can add them. If you use Duo on another device with the same Google Account, your contacts will sync across devices.
Before you start
Sync your contacts so that they appear in Google Duo. You can turn this off at any time.
- On your device, open Settings.
- Search for Duo.
- Turn Contact permissions on or off.
Tip: You can also remove access to your Google Account contacts. If you remove your account, you won't be able to use certain features, such as using Google Duo on multiple devices.
Find contacts
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Duo.
- At the top, tap the search box to see your contact list.
- Enter their name or phone number in the search box.
If you can't see a contact that you're looking for, check the following first:
- Make sure that you have the most recent version of Duo. Download the latest version of Duo for Android devices.
- If the person you want to call is in your contacts and has Duo, but you still can't find them, let us know.
Invite someone to Google Duo
If one of your contacts isn't using Duo, you can invite them to download the app so that you can have video calls with one another.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Duo.
- At the top, tap the search box to see your contact list.
- Look for the contact that you want to invite and tap Invite.
- Your default SMS app will open with a pre-loaded invitation message. Tap Send.
The recipient will receive the message and can then download the app or reply directly to the notification.
