Sitelink settings

  • Sitelink text: Enter additional text that appears in an ad that link to the specific pages on your website.

    Character limit: 25 characters

  • Description 1 and Description 2 (Optional): Additional descriptive information about a sitelink that is displayed in an ad.
    Character limit: 35 characters each.

If you enter text in the Description 1 field, you are required to enter text in the Description 2 field also.
  • Sitelink URL: Enter the website that appears after a customer clicks the link.

  • Account level extension (Optional): Select this check box to set up an account-level sitelink  that will be inherited in all campaigns and ad groups that don't have a sitelink directly applied.  To inherit a sitelink, the campaign or ad group must also allow sitelinks to be displayed.

  • Mobile preferred (Optional):  Select this check box to indicate that the sitelink should only appear on mobile devices.
If a campaign or ad group contains only sitelinks set to Mobile preferred (not recommended), the sitelink may also appear on desktop and laptop computers and tablets.

  • URL template (Optional): Enter a enter a Search Ads 360 URL template if you want to override a template specified at a higher level.

If the sitelink inherits a URL template that doesn't contain a URL placeholder, Google Ads ignores the higher-level template and directs clicks to the sitelink's final URL without applying the template. For example:

    1. You specify the following landing page URL for a sitelink:
      http://example.com/red-shoes
    2. You don't specify a URL template for a sitelink, but you do specify this URL template for a keyword:
      http://tracker.com?id=1234
    3. A search matches the keyword and Google Ads serves an ad along with the sitelink.
    4. A customer clicks the sitelink.
    5. Google Ads directs the click to http://example.com/red-shoes without applying the URL template inherited from the keyword.

If instead the keyword's URL template specified this:
    http://tracker.com?url={escapedlpurl}
Google Ads would apply the URL template, and the click would redirect to:
    http://tracker.com?url=http%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Fred-shoes

  • Custom parameters (Optional): Specify parameters to track additional information about the sitelink.

  • Start/end date (Optional):  Click the arrow to select a date to schedule the sitelink to be eligible to appear in ads.
