18 August 2016: New DoubleClick Search features

Contents

Manage campaigns

New keyword editor

Creating keywords or negative keywords in the DoubleClick Search UI is now more like entering data in a spreadsheet. You enter information for each new keyword on a separate row, and each keyword property is in its own column. Click a row number to select the row. Then use standard copy/paste keyboard shortcuts.

The new keyword editor provides a few data-entry features similar to standard spreadsheets:

  • Copy/paste rows
  • Copy a cell to multiple rows
  • Copy/paste from and to an external spreadsheet, such as Excel or Google Sheets
  • Add optional columns so you can easily add labels or URL templates to the new keywords.

See tips for using the keyword editor.

Optimize bids

More reporting options available in bid strategy reports

With the options to segment bid strategy reports and add Floodlight activity columns, you have more ways to analyze the performance of your bid strategies over time.

You can segment bid strategy reports by day or a custom number of days, by week, month, quarter, or by device.

If you add Floodlight activity columns to your bid strategy reports, you can see the number of conversions or amount of revenue for the biddable items managed by the bid strategy.

Deprecating some AdWords conversion columns

AdWords has made a few changes in how it reports conversions, so DoubleClick Search (DS) has made similar changes in its UI and API.

Changes in the UI

DS changed the data type of the AW Conversions and AW all conv columns. Instead of reporting integers like 50, the columns now report fractional numbers, such as 50.0.

Because of the change in data type, the columns now only report as far back as January 1, 2016.

To give you time to update formula columns or automated rules that use these columns, DS has automatically updated formula columns and rules to refer to copies of these columns, named {deprecated} AW Conversions and {deprecated} AW all conv. These deprecated columns report integers, but will only contain data up to September 21, 2016. In reports that start after September 21, the deprecated columns will report 0.

Be sure to update formula columns or automated rules to use AW Conversions and AW all conv by September 21, 2016. For example, if you created an automated rule that pauses all campaigns when one of these columns reports less than 1, then all of your campaigns will pause on September 21.

The following columns will also contain data only up to September 21 (and will start reporting 0 thereafter):

Changes in the API

Columns in the DS reporting API have changed as follows:

  • adWordsConversions column is changing from Integer to a fractional Number. For example, instead of returning 96, it will return 96.00000000. The data in this column will depend on the report's date range.
    If a report's date range:

    • Starts after September 21, 2016, the column reports on conversion actions that have been configured to surface in the AdWords "Conversions" column

    • Ends before September 21, the column reports on 1-per-click conversions.

    • Contains days before and after September 21, the column includes both 1-per-click conversions and conversions from the AdWords "Conversions" column.

  • adWordsConversionsManyPerClick column is deprecated. If a report includes that column and its date range starts after September 21, the column will return 0.
