Add and manage inventory rules in a manual campaign

Pause/unpause keywords using inventory rules

To pause/unpause keywords in an ad group, you create an inventory rule that matches one or more products in your inventory feed. If your inventory feed is updated to indicate that all of the matching products are no longer in stock, DS automatically pauses all keywords in the ad group.

When the inventory feed indicates that at least one of the products matched by the rule is back in stock, DS unpauses the keywords.

To create an inventory rule that pauses/unpauses keywords in an ad group:

  1. Navigate to an ad group.

Steps for navigating to an ad group
    1. In the left navigation panel, click All accounts.
What if the left navigation pane isn't visible?

    2. Click the navigation bar to display navigation options.

    3. In the Agency list, click the agency that contains the advertiser. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

    4. In the Advertiser list, click the advertiser that contains the engine account.

    5. In the Account list, click the engine account that contains the campaign.

    6. In the Campaign list, click the campaign that contains the ad group.

    7. In the Ad group list, click the ad group.

    8. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

DoubleClick Search displays the ad group page.

  2. In the Action column, click the Add button for the Pause/unpause KWs rule type.

Note that you can only create one rule in an ad group for each type of action. So if you've already created a Pause/unpause KWs rule, you can't create another one in the same ad group.

  3. In the settings that appear, name the inventory rule.

  4. From the Inventory account list, select the inventory account that contains your products.

  5. In Product matching criteria, specify the products for the rule to monitor:
    1. From the Attribute or metric list, select an attribute from the inventory feed.
The list contains all of the product attributes defined in the inventory account you selected.
For example, if you want the rule to monitor products of the same brand, select the Brand attribute.

    2. Select an operator, such as Equals or Starts with.

    3. Enter a value to match. Matching is case sensitive. That is, Shoes does not match shoes.

You can use pipes | to filter by multiple terms in one attribute field. This achieves the same effect as an inclusive OR filter. For example, if you create the following Pause/unpause keyword rule in an ad group:
      Color equals "green" | "blue"
DS will pause all keywords in the ad group if all "green" products and all "blue" products become unavailable.
    4. You can click the Preview matching products button to see a preview of the products that the rule will use.

  6. Click Save.
DS will periodically evaluate inventory rules in this campaign and pause/unpause keywords based on the availability of the products that match the rule's filter.
