Review bulksheet formatting before uploading

If you're using a bulksheet to edit or create items in DoubleClick Search (DS), make sure the formatting is correct before you upload. Each search engine has different requirements for the columns you need to complete. If you're using a bulksheet template you downloaded from DS, hover over a column name to learn more about these column requirements.

Please note the following:
  • The values described in this article are case-sensitive

  • The values in the Row type and Action columns must be in English, as well as any bulksheet commands such as remove_content. You can create ads, keywords, and other items that are trafficked out to the engines in any of the languages that the engines support.

  • It's not required, but you can remove unneeded columns before uploading.

The following two columns are always required in bulksheets:

  • Row type: Specifies the type of item you're uploading:

    • engine account (applicable only when adding or editing an account-level URL template)
    • campaign
    • ad group
    • ad
    • keyword
    • campaign negative keyword
    • ad group negative keyword
    • Other engine-specific items, such as sitelink or callout extension in AdWords.

  • Action: Specify the type of action you're performing:

    • create: Create the item. Leave the related ID column blank.
    • create|pause: Create the item as paused. Leave the related ID column blank.
    • edit: Update the item. Enter the item's ID in the related ID column.
    • pause: Bring the item on the search engine down temporarily. Enter the item's ID in the related ID column.
    • resume: Resume an item after it has been paused or deactivated. Enter the item's ID in the related ID column.
    • deactivate: Bring the item on the search engine down permanently. This action deletes the item on the search engine. Before you perform this action, you must be absolutely certain that you'll never need the item again. If you're not certain, we recommend you enter pause instead. Enter the item's ID in the related ID column.
    • read-only: Instructs DS to ignore the row. All data in the row will be ignored, even if the row contains updates for an item.

Specify the parent ad group and campaign for faster uploads

If you're editing existing ads, keywords, and other items listed below, it's recommended that you identify the item's ad group and campaign. DS can process edits of existing items much faster if you identify the parent ad group and campaign. (If you're creating new ads, keywords, and other items listed below, it's required to identify the parent ad group and campaign.)

When editing an existing...

Include these bulksheet columns...

Ad

  • Campaign ID and/or Campaign name

  • Ad group ID and/or Ad group name

Keyword

  • Campaign ID and/or Campaign name

  • Ad group ID and/or Ad group name

Negative keyword

  • Campaign ID and/or Campaign name

  • If the negative keyword was created within an ad group, you also need to specify:
Ad group ID and/or Ad group name

Ad group

  • Campaign ID and/or Campaign name

When you download items in an editable bulksheet, the bulksheet contains the name and ID columns you need.

Remove the value of an optional column

You can enter remove_content to remove the existing value of any optional column. For example, enter remove_content in the Keyword Bid Strategy column and the ID in the Keyword ID column. After you upload the file, DoubleClick Search will remove the keyword from its bid strategy.
