Edit a campaign or ad group

You can edit most properties of a campaign or ad group on its respective Settings page. You can also use the settings bar to edit a campaign or ad group. Another option is to update the settings of multiple campaigns or ad groups at once. Click the links below for more details on each option.

Note the following when editing a Bing Ads campaign or ad group:

Campaign budgets
Bing Ads campaigns can specify a daily or monthly budget. If you're changing from a campaign daily budget to a monthly budget, make sure you delete the old Daily budget amount. Likewise, if you're changing from a campaign monthly budget to a daily budget, make sure you delete the old Monthly budget amount.
Ad group targeting
Bing Ads ad groups can override any of a campaign’s targeting settings. However, from DS you can only override device targeting and some types of location targeting. If you specified these additional targeting settings from Bing Ads and then later change any targeting setting for the ad group from DS, DS will traffic all of the ad group’s current targeting settings to Bing Ads. This could have some unintended consequences:
  • Bid adjustments: Any bid adjustments for the ad group that you specified in Bing Ads will be set to 0.

  • Advanced location options: DS will leave these settings alone. If you’ve specified Advanced location options, DS will not remove them when it traffics other targeting changes to Bing Ads.

  • Radius-based location targets, negative location targeting, and Operating system (OS) targeting: If you’ve specified any of these targets for the ad group in Bing Ads, DS will remove them from the ad group when it traffics your changes to Bing Ads.

For example:

  1. You go to Bing Ads and set radius-based location targets for an ad group.

  2. In DS, you change the ad group to inherit device targeting from the campaign.

  3. When DS traffics the change to Bing Ads, DS will:

    • Change the ad group to inherit device targeting from the campaign as expected.

    • Change the ad group’s location settings to match the current settings in DS. This will cause DS to remove the radius-based location targets you set.

Edit campaigns or ad groups in bulk

Schedule bulk edits

You can schedule bulk edits of campaigns or ad groups to occur at a specific time or on a recurring basis. This allows you to keep your regular working hours and still have DS make needed changes any time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To help you keep track of your edits, you can name each scheduled edit something that's meaningful to you. To see a summary of your scheduled edits, or to pause, resume, or delete them, click Scheduled edits in the left nav. Note that DS will list a maximum of 2000 scheduled edits on the Scheduled edits page.

Steps to update campaigns or ad groups in bulk

There can only be one active bulk edit per engine account at a time.

  1. Navigate to the engine account that contains the campaign or ad group.

  2. Click the Campaigns or Ad groups tab.

You can set up a filter to refine the list of campaigns or ad groups:
    1. Click Filter in the toolbar above the performance summary graph.
    2. Set up a filter so the table contains only the campaigns or ad groups you want to update.
  3. If you need to further refine your selection, select the check boxes next to the campaigns or ad groups you want to edit.
If you don’t select any check boxes, DS will edit all the campaigns or ad groups across all pages.

  4. In the toolbar above the table, click the Edit ▼ button and select the action you want to take.
    The Editing panel appears.

  5. The Applies to option shows the number of campaigns or ad groups you selected.
You also have the option to select all campaigns or ad groups across all pages or matching the filter.
  6. Set up the bulk edit.

  7. To schedule the edit to occur at a specific time or on a recurring basis:
    • Next to Start, elect to start the edit at a later time or set up a recurring schedule.
    • If needed, use the Revert option to undo the changes at a certain time.
    • Enter the email addresses of the users to be notified of these changes. DS will send email when the scheduled edit completes.
  8. Click Save.
A line above the table displays the progress of the bulk edit. If needed, you can attempt to cancel the edits. It's possible to cancel a bulk edit while objects are being sent to the engine; visit the Bulk operations page to see which edits were fully processed before cancellation. However, if you click Cancel too late in the process, DS will finish all the edits.

  9. You can click the More details link to see the Bulk operations page.

View a history of bulk edits/undo bulk edits

The Bulk operations page shows a history of bulk edits in the past 30 days for the advertiser. You can download a report from the Results column for more details, including the reasons that any of the campaigns/ad groups failed to be updated.

You can also use this report to undo a bulk edit. Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the engine account that contains the campaign or ad group.

  2. Click Bulk operations in the left nav.
    The Bulk operations page appears.

  3. In the Results column, click a Download reports link.

  4. After the download is complete, open the report in a spreadsheet tool like Microsoft Excel or LibreOffice.

  5. Remove the rows that contain the edits you want to preserve.

  6. For the rows of edits that you want to undo, switch the column titles of the original and new columns.
For example, switch Original Keyword max CPC with Keyword max CPC.

  7. If any of the cells in the switched columns are blank, enter delete_content in those cells.

  8. Upload the report back into DS.
