"Everything up to date" - but new files are *not* syncing
0
I was recently upgraded to Drive (from Backup and sync), and now that it's running, it won't actually sync any new files in the folders it's supposed to be monitoring.  It just shows the status of "Everything is up to date" when that's clearly not the case.

I use it for backing up photos to Google Photos, and the new pictures just aren't there.

Will it eventually recognize the changes?  If so, is this type of lag normal?

There's nothing showing up in the error list.  I've got almost a full TB of available space.  I've tried closing/ending task ("Quit" doesn't actually quit; UX eyeroll), disconnecting my Google account, re-starting the program and Windows altogether, renaming the DriveFS cache folder, re-installing Drive... but nothing seems to force a refresh.

What gives?

Hello Paul,

Not sure I can help so might have to refer you to Drive Support

First, a double check of your settings, see screenshot online where I am backing up Jigsaws, Desktops, and Pictures. Settings set to ignore Screenshots and RAW

New must be new, it's a one shot backup.
Regards,
Peter

Hello
I've the same problem! (Win10) I've try (almost) everything. Old files are updated but new files and folders doesn't sync with folder that's is suppose to.  In File Explorer this folder shows an icon (no cloud sync).
Any suggestion?

@Augusto,

It doesn't look like you have the same problem, Paul is having problems with backing up photos. You mention the My Drive icon

Please raise a new question by going to  https://support.google.com/drive/thread/new and fill in as much information as you can, including type of Sync you have selected and if possible a screenshot of your preferences.

I will monitor for the new question and will be happy to try and answer.

UPDATE: I noticed in Task Manager that Drive was using resources despite showing no activity in the UI, so I decided to let my computer run overnight.  As I suspected, this morning the photos had all been uploaded.

The "Everything up to date" indicator is simply incorrect, and I wonder if there simply isn't enough subtlety there.  My guess is that it shows "Everything up to date" when it is monitoring for changes in the background (syncing), and then only switches to an "Uploading" (or whatever it is; I haven't actually seen it) when it finds new files and is actively uploading.

In other words, Drive is just really slow to notice changes, which is very frustrating.  At least Backup and Sync let you know that it was actively syncing.

Agreed. Backup and Sync worked by backing up photos immediately. Google Drive doesn't seem to notice new photos, and takes quite some time before suddenly uploading them. I don't understand why there is such a lag between adding new photos, and the photos being uploaded to Google Photos. Surely Backup and Sync should still be operational until problems like this are fixed with Google Drive.

I have the same problem. Getting 'Everything is up to date' while the photos are not synced. How long it will take to get all new photos get backed up to Google Photos? Is there a way to see how many photos are remaining to get full synced?

Seem to be having a similar issue to others here (On MacBook Pro). The Drive icon on the top is spinning. Google drive is currently showing the statement "Your files are up to date" which is incorrect. If I navigate the file structure I can see the many file that do not have a check mark but the two arrows in a circle and which are not yet uploaded to google drive. It also states it is "Syncing 1,441 files" but I am not seeing any of that in the activity. Any actions I should take? From prior posts it sounds like it might eventually upload the files? Think its behind by at least a few days.

Same problem: I am uploading multiple GB of videos and it's a pain. I have to check every single file. It reports "up-to-date" one minute and the next it starts a new upload. It also gets the date wrong, for example a movie with data 16 November 2021 gets uploaded as 16 November 2016 — an error converting between US and EU date format, I am sure.
