Re: Pdf quality in drive preview

Not sure what you mean by "higher quality".  I saw the PDF in GDrive without any preview and it looked pretty much like the doc in SkyDrive.

It could be that when you view the PDF in your own My Drive you see it first in the newish Previewer.  If so, click open (or ctrl-click in the first place to avoid the previewer).

External people who get the link (like us here) go straight to the document.  You can try it by logging out of GDrive and clicking on the links you provided here.  You might best do it from another browser or computer from which you have never logged into your Google account (because there have been some suggestions here that cookies are being picked up even if you are logged out).

Hello.

By image quality I mean that for me atleast I get a lower number of colors, fades look strange, pictures have less colors and therefore don't look like they should.

For me I get the same result when I am in the previewer aswell as when I have opened it (not downloaded), same from my macbook at work aswell as from my home pc, as when Iam logged in or out.

I have uploaded two pictures how it looks for me. Am I doing something wrong with opening the Gdrive pdfs, for in my opinion it's quite different in the two pictures.

Best regards

Martin's right, we have the same problem here. The preview of pdf's in Google's viewer is not good. Which is a big problem, cause it prevents us from sharing pdf's with clients through Google Drive.

I now notice a difference in the first slide 1.2.  It was there originally but did not pick it up.  In the PDF I see what look like rings emanating from the flower-like object on the left.  This phenomenon is not visible in the SkyDrive version.

My question is, how does it look in a PDF generated on the local desktop?

Just for info, what PDF apps do you use locally?  I have Adobe Reader and Nitro Reader 3, an excellent (also free of charge) viewer, creator and annotator.

There seem to be problems with previewing gradients (see martins first slides) and transparencies. Also the overall quality of images (resolution, numbers of colors) is not acceptable. Both previews in Adobe (Reader and Acrobat) and Preview (Osx) show the pdf perfectly

See the attached examples of the previews. Notice the quality of the images and the (lack of) gradients in the dark green.

The local pdf looks like the version in the skydrive picture. Gdrive somehow reduces the quality when showing the pdf. Not sure what happens if you download it, but that is not an alternative for me in this case.

I make powerpoints that i share as pdf files. So I use the save as pdf function in office 365.

I dont think it's the creation of the pdfs that is the problem, because I have been working like this along time, but then I have uploaded my pdf files to a ftp and shared via my webpage, n quality loss there.

Björn, yes, I see the gradients -- not as marked as in Martin's blue, however -- in the dark green, but also issues in the spectacles at top right.

In general I can just observe that viewers/previewers do not necessarily give a 100% accurate reproduction of the content of a file as they are only viewers, but I would expect that when you go to a PDF file and 'open with' the "Google Drive viewer" I would expect it to look like the original PDF file, since it is PDF.

I get the same result when I go into the drive, mark the file and press open.

Sure, but think of it. If Google would be able to show a proper preview we (everybody) could use this to send and share presentations and other marketing and sales material. This would really give Drive a boost. I cannot use the service now for this purpose cause I'm not going to tell my prospects and clients "please download it, this is not what it actually looks like" Until then I will have to find another way to share pdf's. Of course I can send them via Wetransfer or Yousendit, or host them myself and send a url. But it would be so much better if I could store and share and organize it from within Drive. (so my Int Marketing and Sales team can work with it. Believe me, this is a serious barrier, and it doesn't seem like a huge thing to solve for Google. PLEASE put this on the list. Thank you.

Especially since microsoft already have shown that it can be done. We dont want a workaround, we want it to work as good as possible, that ought to be googles goal aswell :)

So is there a solution?
There is a lot of talk, everyone discussed the same problem, which in fact I have, too, - but no solution seems forthcoming.
