Backup and Sync preferences issues - pressing 'okay' does nothing and changes won't save

I'm trying change the Back and Sync preferences on 3 computers. One is running the latest version of Windows 10. One is a Macbook Pro from 2007 with El Capitan and the other is a Mac Pro from 2010 with High Sierra. All are up to date, as are the apps (as far as I'm aware). All 3 computers have the same problem: I cannot save changes to the Backup and Sync preferences. I click 'okay' but the dialogue box won't go away. I've already tried disconnecting my account, etc. and nothing really works. It's incredibly annoying! I don't know what else to do. I've also tried opening preferences when the Backup and Sync has fully synced, when it's paused, etc. but no luck. Many thanks, rocknroll237

Hi there,

Welcome to the Google Drive Help Forum.

To help me understand the issue better, could you let me know if you are trying to add multiple accounts in all the devices? If yes, I'd recommend try disconnecting all the accounts, and restart the Backup and Sync through the below steps to see if this helps:
After you restart Backup and Sync, it will take some time to complete.
  1. On your computer, click Backup and Sync Backup and Sync.
  2. Click More More and then Quit Backup and Sync.
  3. Reopen Backup and Sync.
You can also refer to this help center to know about fixing problems syncing to your computer

Also, let me know if you are referring to a personal account or a work account.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Andrew

Hi Andrew, no I am not trying to add multiple accounts. Only the same account on each one and even when I'm only actively using one machine with one account it does this.I've tried quitting and loading up again to no avail.

It's almost certainly a bug on Google's end. The fact I can reproduce it on 2 different Mac machines, each running a different version of the Mac OS and also on a Windows machine makes me believe it's a software bug. I'm surprised there aren't more posts on the internet about it!

Already tried reinstalling the apps on both Mac machines and same problem occurs. Initially everything is fine and I can select any folder, etc. but thereafter, when I want to change what syncs in the preferences, it doesn't work.Haven't tried reinstalling on PC but I'd rather sort out the Mac issue as that's a priority for me at the moment.

When I clicked on the app, it did nothing.  Nothing opened up.  However, when I went to uninstall it- I got an error message that said that it was running.  I finally restarted my computer and uninstalled it.  Now, I can't reinstall it.In the meantime I am undoing the damage that it caused by uploading in full resolution all of my photos and eating up all of my data allowance.  It's like a demon.  Everytime I think I have deleted these from my google drive, I find more images hiding.  It even created movie files with my images.  I have decided that I won't reinstall this program.  It seems to do more harm than good.  I'd rather be responsible for uploading manually and having control over what gets uploaded and how. Thanks for your response!

The issue still persists. I've just tried to tick a folder within a folder to sync it. I press okay and nothing happens.

Apologies if this is a simple question, but if I uninstall my current version and install the new one, will it log me out or otherwise require a re-check or compare between my local files and the cloud? I ask this because the last time I un/reinstalled, I had already logged out (as recommended troubleshooting by Google) and when I logged back, once the app finally finished comparing local and cloud files after waiting many, many hours, it simply began to upload all my local files.  (The local files were from the cloud drive originally and nothing had changed except for it being the next day.)  This meant I had to nuke my local copies and re-download everything for many, many hours.Perhaps installing without logging out or without uninstalling works?  Thanks.
