You can store your files securely and open or edit them from any device using Google Drive.

Get started with Google Drive

You get 15 GB of space in your Drive at no charge. Learn what takes up space in Google Drive and where to buy more space.

Step 1: Open the app

On your Android device, find and open the Google Drive app Google Drive icon. In "My Drive," you’ll find:

  • Files and folders you upload or sync.
  • Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms you create

Open 2 instances of the Drive app

You can open 2 instances of the Drive app side-by-side on an Android device with a large screen. For example, you can open up a PDF on one side of your screen while scrolling through your folders on the other.

If your device is >600dpi and on Android 12 or later

  1. Open the Drive app.
  2. On any Drive item, tap Menu More.
  3. Select Open in split view.

If your device is on Android N or later

  1. Open the Drive app.
  2. Enter split screen mode with another app.
  3. On any Drive item, tap Menu More.
  4. Select Open in other window.

If your device is >600dpi and on Android 12 or later

  1. Open the Drive app.
  2. Next to a file, tap Menu More.
  3. Select Open in split view.
  4. In the top right of the new window, select your profile photo.
  5. Switch your account.

If your device is on Android N or later

  1. Open the Drive app.
  2. Enter split screen mode with another app.
  3. On any Drive item, tap Menu More.
  4. Select Open in other window.
  5. In the top right of the new window, select your profile photo.
  6. Switch your account.

Step 2: Upload or create files

You can upload files from your phone or tablet, or create files in Google Drive.

Step 3: Share and organize files

You can share files or folders, so other people can access, edit, or comment on them.

To find files that other people have shared with you, go to the "Shared with me" section.

Sign out of Google Drive

To sign out of Drive on Android, remove your Google Account from your device.

To prevent other users from accessing your device, learn how to set a screen lock or use guest mode.

Remove your Google Account

  1. Open the Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Users & accounts.
  3. Select the account you want to remove.
  4. Tap Remove account.
  5. To confirm, tap Remove account.
