Get help with a WhatsApp backup
While WhatsApp backups use Google Drive storage, WhatsApp manages the backup file and end-to-end encryption.
This means that Google can't access, examine or restore your messages, photos or other media from your backup.
To restore it to a new phone, find a missing backup, recover media or other issues with your WhatsApp backup, visit the WhatsApp Help Centre.
Restore a file from the Google Drive bin
If you've deleted something recently using Google Drive or the Google Drive desktop app, you might be able to restore the file yourself.
Restore from your bin
- Open your Google Drive app.
- Next to the file that you want to recover, tap Menu
- Tap Restore.
