Before you transfer your domain to Google Domains, you must:
- Complete the steps below at the registrar for your current domain.
- Consult with your current registrar for its transfer and setting process.
- Unlock the domain.
By default, some registrars lock your domain. In order to be eligible for transfer, follow your current registrar’s instructions to unlock the domain.
- Get an “authorization code,” “transfer code,” “EPP code,” or for .jp domains, “REG-ID code.”
The code is a unique string of characters. For example: "5YcCd!X&W@q0Xozj."
Tip: For .jp domains, if you can't find the code, use the placeholder code “REG-00-0000-0000.”
- Your registrar may require you to turn off the domain’s privacy protection, also known as:
- Private registration
- WHOIS privacy
- Registration privacy
While privacy protection is off, your WHOIS contact information may be public until you finish the transfer. After the transfer, you can change it to make your information private.
