Google has closed an agreement for Squarespace, Inc. to acquire all domain name registrations from Google Domains. Squarespace is the registrar of record for your domain and the Squarespace terms of service apply; however, Google will manage your domain during a transition period. Following a transition period, your domain will be transitioned to Squarespace and, upon transfer, your data will be governed by Squarespace's privacy policyLearn more about the agreement.

Create a Google site for your domain

For more information on how to create and update your site, go to the Google Sites Help Centre.

Important: You'll see an error message if there's a domain name system (DNS) conflict. To avoid conflicts, go to fix conflicting records errors.

  1. On your computer, open Google Domains.
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that you used to buy your domain.
  3. Click the domain name that you want to manage.
  4. Open the menu Menu.
  5. Click Website and then Build website.
  6. Under 'Simple site powered by Google Sites', click Continue and then Start new site.
  7. To create or prepare your site, follow the directions on Google Sites.
  8. When your site is ready, click Publish.

Connect a site to your domain

Important: If you use a classic Google site, you must first convert it to new Sites.

  1. Open Google Domains.
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that you used to buy your domain.
  3. Click the domain name that you want to manage.
  4. Open the menu Menu.
  5. Click Website and then Build website.
    • You won't build a new site. This is to help you connect to the correct service.
  6. Under 'Simple site powered by Google Sites', click Continue.
  7. Click Use existing site.
  8. Enter the subdomain that you want to use. This is the text to the left of the domain name. For example, in 'www.example.com', the subdomain is 'www'.
  9. Under Google Sites, use the down arrow to select the Google site that you'd like to connect.
  10. Optional: When you want to redirect users from 'mydomain.com' to 'www.mydomain.com', select Also redirect [example.com] to [site name].
  11. Click Connect site.

Tip: Updates may take up to 48 hours to take effect. Once the site is connected, your site opens as your domain's homepage.

Connect a URL to your Google site with Google Workspace

As part of the connecting process, create a CNAME record in Google Domains:

  1. Sign in to Google Domains.
  2. Select your domain.
  3. Open the menu Menu and then click DNS.
  4. Scroll to 'Custom resource records'.
  5. In the '@' field, enter the subdomain. For example, 'www'.
  6. Inside the 'A' field, click the down arrow Arrow drop down and then CNAME.
  7. In the 'Domain name' field, enter 'GHS.GOOGLEHOSTED.COM'.
  8. Click Add.
  9. Follow the steps to assign a new URL to a site.
