About resource records

Just as a recipe provides a list of ingredients and cooking instructions, your website needs information and instructions to bring together all of its underlying components, such as your web host or email service provider. These pieces of information are known as resource records.

Resource records are stored in name servers. When you purchase a domain through Google Domains, name servers are automatically set up and provided to you at no additional cost. You can manage and modify most resource records directly from within Google Domains. You can also set up custom name servers. When using custom name servers, you’ll manage and modify most of your resource records through your name server provider instead.
