how to link one paragraph to another in a google doc (300 pages)

I have a 300+ page doc that has a table of contents already.  I want to extract some details of each entry and place them at the bottom of the doc. I want to link these to the original entries (individually), so i don't have to scroll thru the doc or go up to the table of contents to find the entry.
thank you for your help!!

while i'm at it, how can i put a link to the table of contents at the bottom (footer?) of each page?

I'm a newbie at this.

Hi, Lorraine,

I believe the only way to accomplish what you want is using bookmarks and bookmark links.

How to Create a Bookmark in a Document
  1. Click where you want to place the bookmark in your document.
  2. Click the Insert drop-down menu.
  3. Select Bookmark.
How to Create a Link to a Bookmark
  1. Highlight the text you'd like to link from. You can also just click anywhere in your document to create a link there.
  2. Click the Insert drop-down menu and select Link... Alternatively, click the link icon in the toolbar.
  3. In the "Edit Link" window, select the "Bookmark" option to see the bookmarks you've created.
  4. Click the bookmark you'd like to link to.
  5. Click OK to close out the window.
While you can't put a bookmark in a footer, you can put a link behind text there. There isn't a separate link for the entire TOC -- links are only available for individual entries in the TOC.

Thanks Jo.
I'd be getting a bit worried that 300pp is getting close to the limits of Gdocs behaving properly and might become corrupted. If possible I suggest you split it into two or more separate files. In any event it might be a good idea to make a copy (File menu) as a back-up (this will not carry over the version history)

So glad that will work for you, Lorraine! I agree with my friend Gill that your document is getting awfully long. You may not need to break it into smaller files just yet, but if you start running into any problems that would be our recommendation. Of course, if you do it now, that would save you some possible headaches down the road.

Please let us know if we can help with anything else.

Hi Jo S & Gil !!

Thanks for offering!!
I'm sure i'll need your help again? Should i just keep coming back to this thread?
Lorraine, if you have additional but unrelated questions regarding Docs, please post them in new (separate) threads in the help community:

Either Gill, I, or one of the other volunteer product experts would be more than happy to try to assist.

Best,

Yes, of course. But if i have more questions re: this issue, may i come back here? Maybe i should not click on yes - my question is answered, so it will stay open? is that how it works?

Can i link to this convo if this closes and i have a question related to it?

i just don't know how this works. But i'm doing pretty well, seeing i'm "over" 70 and determined to help my son with his book!

Thank You Both Sooooo much!!
Hi, Lorraine,

Yes, if you have questions about this same issue, you may post again in this thread (or link to it in a new thread). Marking a response as an answer let's other people with the same question know there's an answer to it, and it also helps the other product experts know you received the answer you needed. It won't lock the thread, so you can continue to ask other questions about the same issue if you need to.

So i don't know which answer to say answered my question, because there was a really important comment to divide the doc as well as the first response which was great also
You can mark them both, Lorraine. :)
