Is there a way to match google form response to a specific individual?

I would like to have a response submitted through google form to match the correct individual.
Any help or suggestions are welcome.  Here are the details of my issue.

I am trying to collect current information from specific students (hundreds of them).  I have created a google form and I have sent a link to each individual.  As the responses come into the google sheets, I would like some way "to marry" the two lists to know who already responded and who didn't.  I have tried to figure it out for myself, but every idea I had so far involves a lot of manual matching and copying.  Can someone help me to figure out what is the best way to streamline/simplify this extremely time consuming process, please?

Here is a link to a copy of my spreadsheet where I changed personal data for privacy issues, but otherwise the sheet is identical to what I am working with.

Thank you very much.
Magdalena

Hi, Magdalena Sztajnmec,

Keep in mind we cannot see what you see so it would be difficult to offer a solution? There are many unknown variables so we would need something to work with.

For me, or other forum contributors to help (in case I'm not around), I suggest that you share an editable COPY of your sheet. Use your sample sheet to demonstrate what you'd like the sheet to do!  Here are some tips to help you get a great answer quickly... Product Experts TIPS FOR SHARING

Thank you Ben.  That was helpful.  It took me a while to change the personal information before I could post a copy though. :)

Hi, Magdalena Sztajnmec,

I have taken a look at your example spreadsheet. I can't figure out what you are trying to do? Marrying two tabs does not tell me anything?

Also, the Form Responses 2020 does not look like a typical Form Responses tab.

The purpose of a Form Responses 1 tab is to receive the form submissions. It is not advised to use this tab for anything else. Keep in mind the form submissions are inserted into the tab and not appended. So adding formulas and formatting of cells will not be maintained for new submission being inserted. Formulas and formatting will simply be forced down below the new inserted submission.

Ay this point I can't see how the marrying is supposed to work?

I'm not exactly sure what I mean neither.  I was hoping someone who knows google sheets and google forms might give me an idea.  Were you able to read the "Google community" tab in the spreadsheet itself?  I have enunciated perhaps a little better what I am looking for, but if it still doesn't make sense then I have another question.

Is there a way / formulas or such where the Form Replies also populate another tab automatically?  But not via query, because I would like to be able to manipulate data.

Hi, Magdalena Sztajnmec,

I don't know how to help you if you yourself don't know what you want?

Also, if you want to transfer data but not use a formula like the query() function then you will need a Script. Unfortunately, I have no experience in writing Scripts. You will need to wait and see if someone else will offer a solution.

In general, my recommendation is not to jump into a project until you have created a simple example so you can figure out how things will work. You have to practice with functions so you can learn how they work and behave. That way you will get a better direction on how to take your project on.

Also, it is suggested not to apply formatting until the end because you spend a lot of time on it and in many cases when you have to alter your project then you are forced to start formatting again.

I can see you have spent a lot of time manually formatting data in cells. In my opinion it is not a good way to go. You will have to keep manually formatting new data as it grows. Also, functions and formulas cannot transfer cell formatting. The output will have no formatting.

I hope that makes senes.

Thank you Ben for trying to help.  You are right about me having to play around different functions and such, which i will continue doing, but i had to find a workable solution to manage my data for this project and quickly and I found it in the end.  :)
