Align two lines

I typing up some notes from a class and have a list of names followed by their descriptions.  I'm putting a colon at the end of the name and then tabbing over to indent.  I'm not using bullet points or numbers.  A couple of the descriptions are long and run down to a 2nd line.  I'd like to have the 2nd line indented so that it aligns with where the description starts instead of where the original margins are.  However, when I tab the 2nd line, it indents the entire paragraph (including the name) instead of just that 2nd line.  How do I indent only that 2nd line?

I attached a print screen with the lines that I want to align highlighted in yellow.

Hi, Kevin,

My example of what you are trying to do. I am just pasting some example text so I don't have to type for this example :)

Step 1: In my example, type Option 1
Step 2: Press TAB
Step 3: From the Menu, select Format>Align & Indent>Indentation options.
Step 4: Under Special indent select Hanging and in the field to the right enter a value, something like 2 for the amount of indentation and click Apply.
Step 5: Then either paste text or start typing.
Step 6: At the end of the paragraph hit enter and type Option 2 and then hit TAB and start typing.

I hope this helps,

Hi, Kevin,

In addition to my friend Ben's excellent suggestion, another option would be to set up your list in a two-column table. You can put the categories in the left column and the descriptions in the right column (they will automatically be aligned). When you're done, you can hide the borders of the table by right-clicking in the table, going to Table properties > Table borders and changing the border color to white and/or the width to zero.
