Hi everyone,

Just circling back on this thread to let you know that this and other improvements are available, in case others are searching for this feature today. The new feature lets the users to delete/remove the (blank space taken by) header and footer from the document. You can find out more about this feature through this Help Center article or can see this thread for detailed steps.

Thanks!

Hi, Sonja.

If you're trying to remove the footer (not the contents in the footer), it's not possible at this time to remove a footer completely. However, you can minimize it by following these steps:

Click in the footer and select "Options." Change the footer margin to 0 (zero) inches from the top.

Next, change the top margin of your document to zero as well via File > Page setup > Margins.

There will be a slight space still left at the very bottom of the document. To minimize that further, put your cursor in that space, press Ctrl + A, and change the line spacing to single (with no space before/after paragraphs) and the point size to 1 (you will need to enter the 1 manually). Also make sure the line spacing is single-spaced with no space before or after paragraphs.

It's not possible at this time to totally remove the header/footer, as otherwise there would be nowhere for page numbers to go.

To help influence future feature changes or additions in Docs, I encourage you to provide feedback about this directly to the Docs team by following these steps:

1. Open a document.
2. Click Help > Report a problem.
3. Enter your feedback.

Although the product team is unable to respond to individual users directly, they review this feedback regularly and use it to help improve the product over time.

Does that cover what you need?

There is actually a button called format which has a section named headers and footers which allows you to delete or add them

I am dealing with this problem. I WANT a header with a title. I WANT a footer with page numbers. But IN ADDITION TO the page numbers and title, the document is also printing the document date and file name  in the header, and the document URL in the footer. HOW do I get rid of these unnecessary items?

This is crazy to me. I am going to have to add the title and page numbers manually.

Natasdf, this is likely happening because of how you are printing the document and/or the app you are using to print it.

Are you using Google Cloud Print or the printing app from your printer?

Are you printing from the open Docs document or from your browser?

Which browser (and browser version) are you using?

Which operating system are you using?

Are you on a school, business, or personal account?

Hi, Thank you for responding. To answer your Qs:

I am printing directly from Google Drive on my browser, which is:

Google Chrome is up to date
Version 79.0.3945.79 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Windows 10

Personal account

Printer is an HP DeskJet 4535

Using the USB cable

Hope this helps.
Thank you for your responses. If you are printing from Drive or preview, please try opening the document and printing directly from within the document instead.

Also, please check the "advanced" or "more" settings in your print panel. There should be a box there regarding printing headers/footers that you should be able UN-check.
