Graph isn't populating in Google Sheets - what am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to create a line chart showing my power bills across the years to compare between providers and how I'm tracking. I want to be able to compare month-on-month the figures.

In column A3:A14, I have the months Jan - Dec listed.
In row B2:E2 I have the years/providers.
In cells B3:E14 I have my figures (monthly bills) recorded. There are some cells within this that are blank.

When I select A3:E14, the chart comes up blank - displays a 'No data' message.

I want my X axis to be the months Jan - Dec.
I want my Y axis to be the price range (say $30 - $100).

I also can't make sense of the "Add Series" feature as whatever I put in it doesn't like.

Can someone please help me work this out?

I managed to sort it, I just needed to remove the $ and the chart populated. Then I added it back in and it formats fine.

Oh weird.

if you go do File>Spreadsheet Settings, you should be able to adjust the Locale.   I suppose Australia would be the best option for you?

I wonder how that sheet you shared got set to the UK?

Don't have an answer, but I'm having the same problem. Trying to add data Record!Z30:Z41 to a series so I can chart a comparative graph, inputting that gives me the same 'no data' error in the 'Select data range' box.

Hey there,

I think it's possible to solve this problem for you, but I and others here would greatly benefit from being able to see a sample of the problem.  Please check out this pinned post for the best way to do it.

Hi Keszia,

Because your sheet locale is set to UK, but you were pasting your prices in from somewhere that had the US $, the numbers were being read as text instead of numbers so the graph wouldn't work.  I used this simple formula in cell B3 on the MK.Help tab, and dragged it around to populate actual number values in GBP.

=1*MID(Sheet1!B3,2,10)

You can see the resulting graph on that sheet as well.  hope this helps!

Hi Matt, I'm actually in New Zealand hence the dollar sign. GBP is not accurate or used here. What can I do to have it reflect in $?

Hi Matt,

So I've changed the locale to Australia (closest option I suppose that uses $), how can I apply the same sum/rule you did to have the chart populate like you did with GBP?
