Google docs measurements stuck in cm

I have been using google docs with the measurements in inches. But it has now changed to cm without me changing any settings. My language is set to English UK but this has always been the case when I was previously using inches.

I have tried changing the language to English US but it is still stuck in cm, even the spelling of centimetres is still in English UK when the language is switched.

Hi, Hannah,

Unfortunately, the measurements in Docs are based on the country a user is located in and/or the language they have selected as their preferred (top) language in their Google account (myaccount.google.com). Is your language set to English (US) in your account?

My language is set to English (UK) and always has been. Since I set up my Google account years ago my language has always been English (UK) and the unit of measurement has always been inches up until today for some reason. It's not a new document that I opened either that this change has taken place on today. It was an existing document that all of a sudden is measuring in centimetres now with no settings being changed since I last opened the document 3 days ago.

After searching about this I found that possibly changing my language to English (US) would change the units to inches but after doing so it still remained as centimetres.
Are you saying that you changed your preferred language in your account to English (US)?

Did you change it in Google Docs as well?

If you did both of those, try closing out Docs, clearing the cache in your browser, and then restarting your computer.

Do inches show for you now?

I wish I could find a way of having English UK and inches!
I've always argued that measurements (and paper sizes) should be independent of language and location.

I did all of that and it is still showing centimetres. Changed the language on both my Google account and the Google docs, cleared my cookies and cache, restarted my laptop but it is still the same.

Thanks you
Hi, Hannah,

Do you have any other Google accounts? I'm thinking this might be account related, so if  you have any other accounts, it might be worth checking.

Otherwise, please share your concerns about this directly with the Docs team by opening a Docs document and going to Help > Help Docs improveThe team is unable to respond to individual users, but they do review all feedback sent to them and use it to improve the product over time.

Hi Hannah Mayes 9564,

I'm just dropping in here to make sure everything is lined up to give inches with UK English.

Go here to set your Preferred Language to English > United States
This will give the inches ruler.

Open the Docs file that is owned by the same account for which you set the Preferred Language.
If the file is already open.. then REOPEN it.
Go to the menu File > Language > English (United Kingdom)

This sets the dictionary of the file to UK English.

I have just done this procedure and my ruler now shows as inches (as in the screenshot above)

If you still don't have inches ruler, try clearing the browser cache and cookies
(instructions: ChromeSafariFirefox)

If all that is done, and you still don't have the inches ruler then we need to look at what can be preventing it... In this case proceed with the assistance from PE Jo.
