Set Number Format of Histogram Axes

I have a histogram with data in the form of durations (tracking hours of sleep). When I add this data to the chart as a series, the chart defaults to formatting the vertical axis - the frequency data as dates/durations - and formatting the x axis - the duration data - as numbers.

Obviously I'd like this to be the other way around; the "hours slept" axis should be formatted as durations, and the frequency axis should be integers. When I examine the chart's horizontal and vertical axis settings, however, they are missing several options, including an option to set the number format of the data.

A previous thread from 2021 shows this option clearly available for histograms. I'm unsure why it's not available here. How can I correct the number formats of this chart?

Thank you folks for any help you can provide.

Hi Ethan Cuka,

Welcome to the Google Docs Editors help community.

 From this Google announcement:

Set advanced number formatting options on both your data labels and axis labels, including the option to conditionally format by color.

Then, from this documentation:

You can format the labels, set min or max values, and change the scale.
  1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
  2. Double-click the chart you want to change.
  3. At the right, click Customize.
  4. Click Vertical axis.
  5. Make the changes you want.
Tip: To hide the vertical axis line, uncheck the box next to "Show axis line".
The announcement is a few years old, and the documentation is incorrect so it is difficult to know if there is an issue or if the features have been removed and the documentation poorly maintained.

I will escalate this to Google.

For collective management, other enquiries describing the same type of issue will be merged to this one.
